Genie was just about to look into Donnie's mind when a feminine voice called out to him. Genie watched as some brunette girl approached Donnie and they kissed. Her shoulders instantly slumped in defeat.
"Should've figured", she mumbled. "Guy's already taken." Genie whipped up an x-ray screen to show her own heart shattering cartoonishly. She then transformed her outfit, wearing a striped shirt, black pants and a beret. "Ah, love", she mused in a French accent. "Le cœur est puant et le mien est nommé Fred .... Okay, so French isn't my best subject." She transformed her outfit back into a pink top with a white skirt and heels. Her blonde hair fell to her mid back in golden waves. Her skin was flawless and her face needed no makeup.
"Okay, Genie", she mumbled. "There has to be a way to get a guy without letting him know you're a free genie..."
"You're a genie?!", exclaimed a male voice behind her. Genie turned around to see a teenage boy of about 17 behind her, staring in shock.
"...No....", she said. "Of course not." She tried laughing it off. "That's just stupid. Genie's aren't real."
"Then how did you change your outfit like that so fast?", asked the boy.
"You... you saw that?", her nervousness was beginning to show. The boy nodded and Genie proceeded to face-palm herself. "I really gotta stop doing that so often."
"Um...", the boy continued to stare at her in shock. Genie looked over him. He looked like the typical geek, wearing a pair of glasses and carrying a comic book with him. Finally she just transformed her outfit again, this time into a black business suit with her hair in a tight bun as she wore a pair of sunglasses and kept a serious face.
"In that case", she said in a disinterested tone as she reached for something in her pocket. "Unless you can keep a secret, I have something to show you." Genie pulled a metal stick with a light and a button on it. "Oh, wait." She then adjusted her grip so that it wasn't pointing at her.
"Wait, no!", said the boy. "I can keep a secret. Really!"
Genie hummed for a moment before pulling out a printed sheet. "According to this polygraph test, you're telling the truth."
"Polygraph?" The boy then looked down to realize he had a sensor on his finger, which he promptly removed. "Okay, can you please stop doing stuff like that?"
"I make no promises", she replied, back in her normal outfit and smiling.
"Wow", the boy went on. "A real... actual genie... this is.... this is..."
"Breathe...", said Genie. "Come on... breathe..."
"Sorry, it's just... holy cow... Um... would you mind if I asked you a few questions?"
"Well, I was planning on getting a..." she then paused, realizing who she was talking to. This guy was good looking, nothing really crush worthy, but not hard on the eyes in any way. Plus, if she couldn't get a boyfriend, she might as well get a friend. And it might be nice having someone she can talk to without having to hide anything. She looked into his mind and saw that his heart was in the right place and was trustworthy.
"Um... what are you planning to get?"
"Actually, maybe we can hang out, ya know?", she chirped. Genie zoomed right to his side and but an arm on his shoulder. "But for the record, I'm already caught up with the modern world... mostly."
"Got it", the boy said nervously. "My name's Dan by the way. What's yours?"
"Genie", she replied.
Dan raised an eyebrow. "You don't want people knowing you're a genie, but your name is Genie?"
"Well...", she blushed. "I don't remember my real name. My memory was wiped the day I was turned into a genie, thousands of years ago. Since all my masters called me that, I just decided to go with it."
"Really? Well, if you want to blend in, you'll need a different name. How about..."
"Sophia", she interrupted. "I always liked that name."
"Alright. So what now? I mean, I was on my way somewhere. Wanna come with?"
Genie/Sophia thought about it. "Alright. Let's get going. but where to?"
