Some noise wakes you up, and when you open your eyes, you see the man who gave you the cookie looking down at you. Your instinct tells you to cry for mommy, but the man slightly touches your head with his big, wrinkly hand and for some reason, you're calm immediately.
"Shhh, don't be afraid. Do you remember me?" he asks. "Yes, you gave me... why can I speak?" you ask back, bewildered. "Because this is a dream. I'm not really here and you're still asleep." he explains. "Who are you?" you ask. "Well, who am I? And who are you? The same person as yesterday? We all change all the time in some way or other." he answers. Or doesn't.
"Why did I become a baby?" you ask. "You seemed like you might want a fresh start. Do you like it?" "Well, yeah, I think so. Will I stay this way?" "As I said, we all keep changing. Now it's your first birthday, in a year you'll be twice as old." "So, yes. Wow. But what about the adult me? Won't anyone miss me?" "Sometimes, reality also changes. This morning, you were all grown-up, now you're like this. But for everyone else, you've always been a little girl. Well, for a year, at least - but I guess that's always for you." "But... I'm still kind of an adult, aren't I? I can read and understand English and stuff." "Well, you've kept some of your old personality so that you can compare between now and before. But I think you're really a cute little blueberry, aren't you?" You think of the way you felt trying on the costume, of your fascination with poop and the choo-choo train and of mommy's milk. "Yeah, I guess so. But wait... does that mean I'm some kind of wunderkind who can read as a toddler?" you ask.
"Well, you'll find out - after you learn to talk, maybe." "Do you know what I'll be like when I grow up?" "Some day, you'll be a grown-up, I guess." the old man chuckles. "You might get more grown up than I am. But it's time to go now. Happy birthday and enjoy your party!" "Wait, where are you going?" you ask.
Then you actually wake up. You quickly sit up and look around, but there's nobody in the room. What a weird dream! You still have so many unanswered questions. You try to speak, but all that comes out is a high-pitched "Geeeeeee!". So you're actually going to learn to talk again. There'll be walking and running and potty training and kindergarten and someday even school, and maybe you'll be a genius in elementary this time - but that's the distant future, nothing you need to care about now. Now it's time for your first birthday party with cake and fun and you'll get a cool blueberry costume as a gift. You shout in joy and anticipation: "YAAAAYYY!!!"
