Beth fingered her own hair. It was blonde, but stringy and lifeless. To make matters worse, her hairline sat quite high on her forehead, which gave her head something of an eggish look. The situation wasn't awful, she supposed, but her hair was nothing like Tara's beautiful auburn mane, today arrayed neatly to cover her shoulders and held back with a cute headband. She wondered what Tara would look like with Beth's own hair...
Beth smiled, set the Chronivac, and pushed the trigger.
She saw the changes start immediately. Tara's hair looked like it was suddenly decreasing in volume, collapsing inward on itself. It was lightening, too, to a pale, dull blonde that looked almost translucent. Beth grinned in spite of herself as she felt her own hair suddenly start to become more voluminous. She reached back and gave it a feel. That was more like it. Tara hadn't noticed any changes just yet, but she would have to, soon. Her formerly lush locks were becoming drab wisps, and Beth noticed with glee that her rival's hairline was even crawling backwards, to reveal a forehead just as eggy as her own had been moments before. Tara's body and most of her looks were still intact, of course, but the change was a blow to her general appearance. Her facial features looked almost too prominent.
Beth's own hair was now the brown beauty that used to be Tara's. She leaned forward expectantly as Tara reached up to adjust her headband, which now sat awkwardly on her depleted hair. Beth nearly laughed out loud as she saw Tara's hand groping around emptily. There was barely anything up there anymore, Tara was suddenly realizing. A look of surprise passed over her face as she drew a few wispy strands of hair in front of her face to look at them, and her eyes widened in surprise. Her formerly glorious hair was gone!
