The town of Blood Moon was a product of social engineering, homes and stores were built, then the well to do had moved in, and so had their businesses... But almost immediately after the initial settling down, Blood Moon had opened its gilded gates and inviting any family that wished to joined. Surprise and delighted at the free handout from the reviled 1%, several grasping individuals had come along with their families.
Blood Moon was built by the shore of a massive lake and gave scenic view. And made a good hiding place for a dragon's horde.
For what wasn't included on the brochure was that the major financier of the town was a dragon named Ignerram who had gotten in on the ground floor of the land market centuries ago. And that Ignerram invited the only two much younger dragons he trusted NOT to destroy his social engineering project next time they agued about where to place a mailbox.
And that every human who entered the town Blood Moon was turned via one of the endless means into a loyal dragonoid. With the proper enchantments in place to make sure the new arrivals didn't notice until they'd been transformed. And the True Dragons could simply shape shift.
Ignerram had no intentions in Tartarus itself of 'asking permission' of humans made into dragonoids, it went against everything of the dragon code: 'want, take, keep.' He just saw no reason why they couldn't mutate the little monkeys peace-meal, even if their creativity and teamwork WAS something dragons wanted for themselves. Let the other dragons hurry along with their plan and meddle with each other's schemes.
The Town of Blood Moon in Ignerram's mind was only the beginning.
The Anderson family however, did NOT fall into the normal category of those who normally moved to Blood Moon in its short history. They were not the grasping low class, nor the covetous upper class, they were that odd thing that Ignerram had learned was called 'middle class' by humans. An odd invention since Ignerram could remember of the divide between nobility and the peasants.
The two younger dragons were already betting on what 'trap' or gimmick would transform which Anderson, in what order, along with their standing bet on which of the dragonoids would be the first to transform into a True Dragon.
The SUV drove through the gilded gates of Blood Lake, with the sign that read 'Welcome to the town of Blood Moon, where all that glitters is gold.'
William and Martha's children in awe at the fancy houses, all seemed to have skylights and a second floor balcony. Some children waved back at them as the siblings waved out at what they hoped were new friends. One thing William noted was how tall nearly everyone in town seemed to be. This reflected in the design of even their house that had taller doors that you'd expect, and like all the houses in town, a large skylight.
