The Zoo

The more people involved, the more difficult it is to reach a decision

added by JosieHadley 7 years ago O

"Well, what do you think, silly? " said Heather with a smile, as she lifted up her front claw, now free of its chains. "I think I've spent enough time trapped in here. I think it's about time I got out of here."

"Are you insane? You're still contagious!" yelled Kim.

"Correction - we are still contagious. We're in this together now, like it or not, " said Heather, as she began to walk towards the large metal door leading to the exit.

Kim was a little shocked as they moved. It felt weird to move this way. Almost like she was a passenger in her own body. She could feel everything in her arms and legs, but it was like someone else was pulling them forward and backwards. She did not like the experience. Kim concentrated, focusing on the appendages on the side of the body below her head - the right side. She brought her right arm and leg to a halt, stopping any further progress towards the exit.

Now it was Heather's turn to be shocked. She was used to being the one in charge of her body. She didn't like yielding control to anyone else, especially someone who was preventing her escape. She struggled to move, trying to pull her body forward with her left claws. But Kim dug in deep with her right claws, and they remained firmly in place. It seemed like they had a stalemate.

"What gives? We need to get out of here, " said Heather.

"No way, " said Kim firmly. "There is no way I am letting you out of here. Who knows what kind of damage you could do to the city? Not to mention all of the people you might infect."

"We! It's we now, not you. You need to realize that we are together now - forever. Whatever happens to me, happens to you, and vice versa. I mean, do you really think I could do any damage if you tried to stop me? And as for the infection .... well, I only did it to you because I couldn't think of any other way to get out of here. I really did think that you would enjoy it as much as me. Besides, do you really think I want to go out there and create more dragons? More competition for food and resources? If I went around converting everyone the whole world would be out of food in a week! No, I just want my freedom - I mean, OUR freedom. Just yield control of our body so we can escape, and I promise that I won't infect anyone else. You have my word."

"Yeah, right, " said Kim sarcastically. "You expect me to trust you after what you did to me?"

Heather sighed and stopped struggling to move forward. "Okay, Kim. You're running the show. What do you want to do? I don't think it is a good idea to stay here. I'm not a hundred percent sure that we aren't still growing, and as it is we can barely fit in this cavern anymore, " said Heather.

Kim looked around the small cavern. She estimated that Heather's body had roughly doubled in size, measuring 40 feet tall, and 80 feet long from head to tail. She had to admit, the cave did feel a little cramped now.

"I guess we could wait for someone from the Zoo to come by. But I don't think they will be too happy with what happened to their little experiment. They weren't too thrilled with the results before I became twice my size and gained another head. They might be kind enough to just build another enclosure, and keep us trapped alone there together for the rest of our lives, " said Heather. "I'm not sure, but I get the feeling that dragons live for a very long time. And that six months I spent staring at the walls of this cave bored out of my mind felt like an eternity. I can't imagine how horrible it would be to do that for hundreds of years."

Heather felt Kim relax her grip on the right side of her body, and knew that she had touched a nerve. She wasn't lying. Sitting in that cave had been incredibly mind-numbingly dull. She was beginning to lose her mind and slip into an almost feral state before Kim came by. Kim seemed like a smart girl, and Heather thought she understood what it would be like to experience that, even with a companion. She doubted that she would want to endure it, even if she thought it might keep the people of the city safe. She could sense her apprehension, and pressed her advantage.

"Then again, they might just decide that we are too dangerous to keep around. It might be easier to just get rid of us. Maybe do a little autopsy after the fact, just to see what they could learn from their failed experiment. After all, the Zoo isn't exactly known for its ethics, " said Heather.

Kim dropped her head down in defeat, and Heather knew she had won. The girl was obviously scared and confused. She was now pliable, and would do what Heather wanted. She just had to let her think she was in charge, and secretly lead her in the right direction.

"So, Kim, you're the big shot now. The one in charge. What do you want to do? " asked Heather.
