John ran through the darkness back to Kim and Heather's enclosure. He knew that the power loss would not go undetected for long. Although the guards were trapped in their quarters, John knew that there were other guards in the park, outside of their building. It would not be long before they had the power back up and running.
The corridors were dark and he knew them like the back of his hand, but John still had to use a flashlight to find his way. The power loss had deactivated the large steel doors that led to Kim. The doors were open, and at first he was afraid that Kim and Heather had simply walked out the door as soon as the power was cut. But then he remembered that they were too large to fit through the doors. The building had been built around them, and although the door was large enough to haul in supplies, it was too small for them to squeeze through. He was lucky that Heather had pushed the doors open, though. They were much too heavy for him to move on his own.
John stared into the open doors a little nervously. Even with the light of the flashlight, it was incredibly dark. An inky ominous black void. He had never been with the girls alone. There had always been at least one guard watching them. What if this was all just a trick, and Heather really just wanted to eat him?
"John, I can see you. Come in, this way, " whispered Heather from the darkness.
John hesitated. He was beginning to think that this was a very bad idea.
Heather could see his apprehension. "Hurry, John. We don't have much time. Kim is waiting for you."
That was all Jeff needed to hear, and he walked slowly into the darkness before him.
