The giant figure of the witch laughed cruelly and bid the cursed pair goodbye, leaving Christina and her mystery acquaintance stuck as helpless toads in a giant and danger filled swamp until further notice. Christina peered at her new refection in the mirror of the waters next to her. Even her revulsion at the stench of the swamp that was now her home was overshadowed by the shock of seeing herself as a warty amphibian.
Christina's thought process was interrupted by a loud an impressive croaking sound coming from next to her. She turned round to face the other toad that she had been brought to this place with. She had been in too much confusion and disbelief to even notice it until now. The other toad bellowed impressively at her again. She knew now that it was trying to communicate with her, but wasn't yet able to translate. Somewhat inconveniently, it seemed that right now she was only able to speak toad and understand human.
"Ribbit!" Christina croaked back.
"Ribbit! Ribbit!" her companion replied, but it was clear they were as yet unable to understand each other.
Christina regarded the other toad for a moment. She knew very little about it - was it just a regular toad or a transformed human like herself? Thinking back, she felt sure she remembered some guy talking to the witch as she approached before quickly disappearing. And the witch had been taunting both about their new life as toads, so this was almost certainly someone else in the same unfortunate position as her.
She instinctively realised this other toad was male. Prior to becoming one, Christina had very little interest in toads - she had always felt they were basically the same as frogs - but she seemed to have inherited some natural toad instincts and knew this was a guy. It was a little smaller than her, though she figured in many species the female was larger.
She realised that she should stick with this other toad whatever happened. As weird as this situation was, it was better not to go through it alone.
