Dustin opened the door to find a pair of sweatpants and a sweatshirt. The sweatpants already had a hole for his tail. Sighing he slid them on. They weren't the best, but it would do. Stepping out, he stood on his paw feet and sniffed the air. It smelled like food. Going into the kitchen, he found Lily making him dinner.
"God, that smells so good." He said.
"Im putting extra cheese in it for you," Lily said, serving him up the omelette. "Enjoy."
Dustin smiled and scrambled up onto one of the stools. As he bit into the omelette the delicious taste was more than he could bare. He started to cry again. He'd not eaten like this since he changed. Lily was sympathetic and sat beside him. "You really have had a bad day..."
"Well it was all Ty's fault." Dustin insisted.
Lily frowned. "Well yes. What he did was wrong, but it sounded like you were kind of a jer yourself you know..."
"No I wasn't I was...." Dustin stopped. After all he'd told her he realized he really had been. Mostly because he was jealous of Ty, and because his own parents were terrible to him as well. At least he could vent his frustrations on Ty. "I guess I was."
Lily patted him on the back. "At least now, you don't have to think about him."
"I sort of wish I could apologize for how I treated him. Getting those powers and using them on me and my parents, I guess he had every right to revenge." Dustin finished his omelette. He turned and smiled to Lily. The young African American girl beamed and stroked a hand along his furry head. "I'd give anything to have my parents around more, but I know they have lots of important things to do. At least now, I have you around."
Dustin was shocked. He'd secretly been planning to just take some things from the girl and steal away, but now his heart ached that he'd even considered such a prospect. What was happening to him? He smiled as his ears lay back. "Uhm, shouldn't you get to bed? Its kind of late?"
The girl nodded and flopped down. "You can sleep on the floor of my room if you like, its more comfortable on that carpet than out here."
Dustin obliged and followed her. As Lily got ready for bed, he waited politely outside. Folding his arms, he lifted one of his pawlike hands, seeing how different it looked. Despite his brutish nature, Dustin couldn't help but feel almost protective of this kid. He didn't know it but the magic was still at work.
