Sometime during the night, Eric Anderson briefly awoke to see a soft pair of green eyes staring at him through the window. He honestly couldn't say whether they were lupine or feline, but instantly knew who they belonged to.
With that comforting thought on his mind, Eric smiled and went back to sleep.
Hours later he awoke to the tantalizing smell of bacon cooking, and realized that the adults had finished their fun (for now) and were getting on with the more serious matters of the day.
But that didn't stop the thoughts running through Eric's mind...
He had immensely enjoyed the walk home with Spencer Lawson. There was something different about her, and not just because she was a hybrid were. Whether he wanted to face the facts and admit it or not, Eric felt something for Spencer that he didn't feel about Julie Stovall. Whether or not this enigmatic feeling was truly love, he honestly didn't know, but he certainly wanted to find out.
However, pursuing any kind of a relationship with Spencer presented a whole new set of problems.
A wolf, a bi- or gay feline, or somehow miraculously beat the odds and become a hybrid too. Those were the options any normal faced upon their first mating with Spencer, but the odds favored the first two possibilities far more than the last.
He had seen plenty of werewolves since moving to Moon Lake, but that was Nate's fantasy fulfilled, not his. If Eric ever had a fantasy in his life beyond excelling in school and not getting picked on because of that, it was now the dark haired beauty before him.
Eric and Spencer talked, a lot, not only on the walk home but long after she had helped him into his room. He sat in his desk chair by the window while she sat outside perched on a tree branch. It was an outer limb of the tree in front of Nate's bedroom, and Eric was surprised it bore any weight at all, let alone hers; but Spencer sat there as comfortably as he would on the sofa, chatting away like old friends until she spotted his clock radio displaying 3:00.
During the conversation, Eric slyly (or hoped he was sly enough) inquired about Spencer's romantic hopes and dreams.
"It's more the person than the were that turns me on," she admitted, not giving Eric any hint what might be on her mind in regards to him, "but in either form, they've got to be able to keep up with me athletically, because I like to be out and about a lot."
That got him to thinking. A wolf couldn't climb trees like Spencer, but another feline could.
However, he certainly didn't want to become bi or gay, so that ruled out any domestic based (were)cats.
With that, he reached under his bed and retrieved the family copy of the Moon Lake Town Guide Book from its hiding place. Eric had looked at it, or at least the images of the female weres, a LOT; but now he needed it for actual research.
Eric poured over every were-feline listing in the handbook, and eventually narrowed it down to three.
I've got to keep my promise to Spencer and see what happens between me and Julie first. But if things don't work out, then all I have to do is find either a werelioness, a weretigress, or a werepanthress and have them turn me into a werelion, a weretiger, or a werepanther. Then I'll be a compatible were for Spencer to date, and hopefully...
Eric only had three regrets about last night.
It was over. Spencer had to go when he really wanted her to stay, and they never got to kiss good night.
But maybe next time...
With that, Eric put the book back in its hiding place and got ready to face the day.
MEANWHILE...
