“We’re home!” Francis and Samantha Twist called into their home. They found Ben and Alex in the kitchen, eating cinnamon pancakes. The smell of the food masked any other scents floating around the house. One of the reasons Ben chose to prepare something with such a strong smell. And it was his favorite breakfast, so it all worked out.
“Did you two have a good night?” Ben asked.
“Definitely. I hope you were able to manage without us for one night.” Francis said. She and Samantha had sneaked away to spend a night by themselves. It was nice, something they hadn’t done in a long while. Sure they had their “fun” nights, with or without additional company, but this was different. They spent the night talking about some more private things. And of course a great deal of the night had been reserved for cuddling (wink wink).
“We did fine. Had a good time babysitting.” Alex said.
“Yes, Gina called after you had gone. She gave a glowing review. You two did a fantastic job.” Francis said, kissing her son’s head. She even leaned over to kiss Alex, who was surprised, and even more flattered.
“Thank you.” he said after Francis pulled away. Samantha laughed, the poor kid seemingly dumbfounded.
“Do you two have anything planned for the day?” Ben asked.
“Not really. Why?” Samantha asked. She helped herself to a plate of food, while Francis started a pot of coffee.
“I’m going over the Lawsons for a few hours before I leave. Ben said he was going to be doing chores.” Alex says. His mothers look at Ben surprised.
“Got nothing better to do. Homework’s finished. And I don’t have interest in motorcycles.” he explained. Though it left more questions than it answered them.
“Spencer’s dad rebuilds motorcycles.” Ben said.
“Oh, right. Maggie said he had a rather messy hobby.” Samantha chuckled. Maggie had sent emails detailing the Sundays her husband would come inside from the garage covered in motor oil and touch everything in sight. On one occasion she’d locked him out of the house until he washed himself off outside.
“That’ll be nice. But I wasn’t aware Eric had any interest in that sort of thing.” Francis said.
“He doesn’t. It’s probably just an excuse to hand out with Spencer.” Ben said. Again, his mothers gave him confused looks. Ben and Alex both explained the events of last night. Francis and Samantha were both a bit surprised to learn the younger Anderson was the one who ended up with Spencer.
“Ya, we thought she’d end up with Nate too. But Nate’s got some other girl apparently. No idea who it is,” Ben said.
“Well, you wouldn’t mind too much if we tagged along with you Alex? Seems like Martha and Maggie are both going to be bored out of their minds later.” Samantha said, only half joking. Alex shook his head, and said it wasn’t his place to tell them what to do.
“I spend so much time here, you two shouldn’t have to ask my opinion of things. And on that note, I’d better check in with my own parents.” Alex said.
“I’ll drive you. See you later mom,” Ben said, quickly following Alex out the door. Samantha and Francis watched as their son left, arm-in-arm with his boyfriend.
“You think they’ll ever get married?” Francis asked.
“I think there’s a strong possibility. But who knows, they may find other people who make them even happier. I went through high school with several different girlfriends, each of whom I could see myself with for the future. But I’m glad I waited.” Samantha said, kissing her wife.

Back inside the Anderson house, Eric and Martha were busy in the kitchen, trying to figure out how many serving they should make, and how much of each ingredient they would need. William came back downstairs to let his wife know Nate would be home later this evening.
Nate and Kenya were both wrapped in each other’s arms, even though they were very much asleep. Spent from their long night of passion, they slept well into the afternoon. Each dreaming of the future. Spending forever with one and other, with either newborn cubs or pups depending on who they took after.
And again, part of Nate’s brain wondered, even while he was unconscious, if he might have hybrid babies like Spencer. Not knowing his own brother had hitched his wagon to hers, Nate was content to dream of a life filled with little panolves (panther-wolves).
“Wait, no.” Nate was suddenly upright. He felt the mess between his legs, and started to panic a little. He hadn’t been dreaming about Spencer, had he? The other day, when she kissed him, was that real? No more real than when Kenya kissed him.
“Morning handsome,” Kenya soon woke next to Nate. She kissed his furry neck, but Nate was hardly aware of her presence. He was too busy trying sort out the dream he had had, where he hadn’t ended up with Kenya, but Spencer.
