Chad was a bit embarrassed as the doctor examined him. He had his insurance card, and even though he was still in high school, since he was over 18, they didn't require his parents be there. The doctor didn't find any trauma other than the distinctive bruising on Chad's back. He asked Chad how it happened, and Chad replied, "I wish I knew. I think I got doped on Friday, I've blacked out at least twice since then. The second time, I woke up with these bruises."
"Blacking out? Hm, we'll do some blood tests. You play football, don't you?"
"Yeah, but the season's over."
"No blackouts that you recall before Friday?"
"No, sir."
"Well, it's possibly a delayed brain injury? Or possibly drugs as you suspect? What did you take?"
"I didn't take anything. I picked up a shoestring that I found, and everything got weird. But I suppose it could have been the sports drink that Rick gave me earlier? Then there was that taffy candy someone left in my locker, too? And I got the school lunch on Friday?"
"Doctor, I heard of a case in the ER last week involving toad excretions, I don't think they involved blackouts, but they did cause hallucinations, and it was touch related. They weren't licking them- though possibly transferred the substance to their mouths, they thought it was absorbed through skin," the nurse interrupted.
"Toad excretions? Hm? We'll take another blood sample, and see what comes back."
