Amy started crying, and Mary stepped forward to comfort her, patting her gently.
"I'm sorry, Amy. I didn't mean to hurt you. But I thought I should let you know the truth, " said Mary.
Amy sniffled a little, her tears slowly stopping. "That's okay. I think deep down I really knew it anyway. I mean, after I used the vials, I figured it out. You must have been a person that used the vials, too. But I just secretly hoped it was true. I just really wish that you were a real Gryphon," said Amy.
Suddenly she began to glow. Mary removed her hand, and saw that it was covered in sparkling dust. She frantically tried to rub it away, but it was too late. Her body and mind were starting to feel funny.
"What's the matter, Mara?" asked Amy.
"Nothing, nothing, " said Mary, trying to clear her muddy head. She was trying to remember something, something important.
Amy looked at her curiously. Mara was starting to change. Her hinds quarters were beginning to look more feline. Her hands and feet began to look more like the talons of an eagle and the paws of a cat. Her tail began to look more like a lion's tail, ending a tuft of fluffy fur. Mara shook her head, as if she was in pain.
"Mara ... I mean, Mary, are you okay?" asked Amy.
"Sure, I feel great. But the name isn't Mary - it's Mara. Mara the Gryphon, " said Mary, as she stretched her wings and posed proudly.
Amy just stared at her friend in shock.
