Rubbish!
It had been almost 2 weeks since grandpa had passed, and Aaron still didn't understand why his grandmother had given him that stupid ring. It was a dark bronze colour, with a huge white diamond in the middle, which was surrounded with strange markings Aaron couldn't decipher. Whatever it was, it had sat in Aaron's junk cabinet for the last 2 weeks, and his mother was rather irritated that he had not honoured her mother's request. So he had to wear it. And it was the first day of school tomorrow. Marvellous.
He put the ring on, moaning about why his grandma expected him to wear a weird ring anyway, then tried to think of what to do with it. He did not notice as the diamond of the ring began to glow softly.
Aaron was a smart, bookish kid; 16 years old and rather smart. He had shortish brown hair and a rather strong jaw; despite the fact that he was not a sporty person, everything else about his body was similarly built. He was 180cm tall (6 feet) and could easily beat a fully grown man in a fight. Luckily he was somewhat of a gentle giant. That may have been one of the reasons his girlfriend loved him so much.
Laura was the opposite of Aaron: short, slim, sporty, even her hair was much lighter than his. She was about 160cm (5'4") tall, and enjoyed swimming and soccer, captaining the girl's team at school. She found Aaron simply because they were so different, she was tired of dating Strong, stupid assholes and wanted someone who really cared, and that someone was Aaron.
Thinking about all of this gave Aaron an idea. He could give Lauren the ring as a gift! At least then he had an excuse for not wearing it. Then again, it was part of his Grandpa's final wishes. Perhaps a day or two wouldn't hurt.
