Jeff started looking though the woods for the other deer that she smelled. She was more than a little nervous about doing that, she was well aware that she was a she, and that this was apparently the end of the deer mating season. The instincts that this body had were obviously strong, so Jeff wasn't sure if she could resist if and when the time came.
On the other hand, she also knew instictivly that there was saftly in numbers. She didn't have a clue where she was, it clearly wasn't near her home, and so she didn't know how many predetors were out there. One lone doe wouldn't stand much of a chance against a wolf pack or mountain lion, but several might.
She sniffed along the forest floor, snatching the occational nut or sprig of grass while she found the trail. It was incredible just how much she could tell from this nose! There were definitly other deer, bucks and does, around. There had been a bear here, too, but several days ago from the faded scent. No wolves that she could find, nor mountain lions.
She crested a small hill and got the wind fully in her face. Her nose was assaulted by the scent of deer nearby. The scents were mixed, but her instincts told her at least four or five does and a buck were not far away. Quickening her pace, she soon found herself in a thicket of trees. There were indeed several deer laying near each other, hunkered down from the approaching storm.
The buck stood up when he saw the new doe approach. Jeff wasn't sure if she should stay or run, but her instinct to stay was strong. The buck sniffed at her a bit, then returned to his place amoung the does. Apparently, he wasn't interested.
Jeff didn't mind that, and found a place to lay next to him and the other does. Accepted without question, the group hunkered down for the night.
