A shudder rattling over the bus jolted Trevor awake. He took the headphones off his head just as the doors hissed open and the crowd started making their way off the bus. They were talking just as much now as they had been earlier. He glanced out of his window to try and get a look at the flight dome, but only saw a parking lot that led over to the road that circles the island. The Flight Dome must have been on the other side of the bus and he couldn’t see it through the throngs of standing people.
Smacking his lips to try and get the dryness out of his mouth, Trevor made his way off the bus with everyone else. No sooner had he stepped off and rounded the side of the bus than his eyes went wide at the sight of the massive structure in front of him.
“Holy crap,” he gasped, looking up at the edge of the towering dome. It had to be as big as the downtown area of a major city, with enough height to enclose some of the biggest skyscrapers. Still, as popular as this place appeared to be, he couldn’t help but wonder if there would be enough room inside.
Taking his place near the back of the line, the group slowly started filtering in to the Flight Dome. As much as he hated the crowd, he did like the way the facility’s main hallway had been done. The floor was painted in a soft blue with splotches of white he quickly realized were supposed to be clouds. Overhead, the vaulted ceiling was adorned with model birds of various sorts hanging from wires and even more silhouettes painted across the ceiling.
His eyes were directed back down ahead of him when Trevor heard a few exasperated groans rising over the clatter. A short time later a few people actually walking back out the door. His confusion was answered a short time later when he saw a large electronic marque hanging from the ceiling that simply read, “Attention: No raptors in The Flight Dome. Only allowed in exterior districts and in limited numbers. Please visit one of the districts to consult about the lottery if interested.”
“Well that wasn’t listed in the brochure,” Trevor sighed.
