"Sorry about that, " you say, as you point the key at the woman. Just as you are about push the button, an acorn hits your fingers, sending the keys spinning in your hands and ending up pointing at you. You see a bright flash, and feel a wave of nausea as the ground seems to drop below you. When your vision recovers, the world around you seems enormous! You look at your hands, and see tiny gray paws. You reach behind yourself and pull a large fluffy tail in front of your face. You quickly realize, you are now a grey squirrel, just like the lady in the tree!
You don't have long to ponder your situation, as they corgi suddenly begins to take an interest in you. It turns, and stares at you quietly growling. With a lurch it springs forward and runs toward you. In a panic, you do what comes naturally and run as quickly as you can to the nearest tree. You easily use your claws to scale up the trunk to the safety of a branch.
"You little asshole, " says a voice. You turn to see the lady - the grey squirrel - glaring at you, not far away on the same branch. Her squeaks are now clearly understandable as words. "Get off my branch and out of my tree!"
She runs toward you, and you flee to a higher branch. She chases after you, hurling insults, and you continue to run. The corgi stays below you, barking loudly and watching the action with interest. Eventually, you both begin to tire. The lady sits down a few feet from you on the same branch, huffing and breathing heavily. You rest on the same branch, winded and trying to catch you breath. She weakly tosses an acorn at you. It misses widely, and falls to the ground, causing the corgi to unleash a torrent of loud angry barks.
"Hey, stop it! " you say. "I said I was sorry. I was trying to help you, and change you back."
The lady glares at you angrily. "Then do it! If you are really sorry, then change me back."
You look at the key, resting on the ground, just past the angry dog. You sigh.
"I can't. At least, not now. I need those keys, " you say, raising a tiny clawed finger and pointing to the ground. The lady slowly creeps beside you, so she can see what you are pointing at. She sees the key, guarded by her suddenly very much larger and intimidating dog. She sits down next to you with a sigh.
"Damn, I really hate that dog right now," says the lady. "I guess we'll just have to wait until he gets bored and goes away."
You two sit in silence on the tree, waiting for the dog to leave. But after several hours it is still there, staring intently at you and the lady in the tree. It is starting to get dark, and is getting a little cold. You shiver a little.
The lady pops up. "Come on. It looks like that dog isn't going anywhere. At least not tonight. We better find somewhere safe and warm to sleep."
She walks towards the tree trunk, and after climbing a few branches finds a small open knot in the trunk. She crawls inside and looks around. "Well, it's not much better, but at least it's not outside. It'll do for tonight," says the lady.
She motions for you to come in. It is a tight fit, but you are both able to squeeze in. The lady is right. It is a good place to sleep. At least you can lay down without worrying about falling out of the tree. The lady lays down beside you, her body pressed close to yours. It feels nice, a little warmer. But you still feel a little uncomfortable.
"Relax, " says the lady. "I am not going to try anything. It's not like I am enjoying this either. But there isn't a lot of space, and I was a little cold. Since we are going to be spending some time together, we might as well get to know each other. My name is Amy. What's yours?"
"Well, I am ...."
