Maggie found William and Martha chatting in a corner of the teacher’s lounge. Nate, Eric and Spencer were in another, watching TV.
“It’s nice to see them getting along.” Martha commented as Maggie approached them. She nods in agreement.
“Especially Eric and Spencer. It’s pretty clear those two have fallen for each other.” Maggie said. Martha and Willam both got the feeling Maggie wasn’t just going to engage them in idle chatter. This was a more serious talk, one not for their children’s ears. They all dropped their voices down to an appropriate level so Nate and Spencer couldn’t hear them.
“I’m glad. After what happened with Julie, I was worried Eric would just shut himself up again.” William said.
“After Jeremy I was worried Spencer would find another jerk. But it seems both have found someone more compatible.” Maggie said.
“Compatible for sure.” William echoed, remembering Eric telling him about how the two liked the same things.
It went beyond TV shows and tastes in music. They were both incredibly smart for their age, though Spencer was less career oriented in her thinking than Eric. And most importantly, they both respected each other’s wishes. Neither was forcing the other’s hand.
“If you don’t mind my asking, in regards to Eric’s being normal, what do you think they should do? What WE should do?” Maggie asked.
“I’ve thought about that a lot lately. More so now, given the looks the two keep giving each other.” Martha said, pointing to the group across the room. Nate was texting someone on his phone, while Eric and Spencer were sort of snuggling with each other. Eric had as much of his arm around Spencer as he could, while she had her head on his lap.
“I think Eric’s really stuck on what kind of were he’d want to become.” Martha said.
“I agree. Nate already told Eric he’d be fine with his becoming a werewolf, but I don’t know if Eric wants to go that route. He’s trying to find something compatible with Spencer, and his options are limited. Not just by species, but by the fact we don’t know many weres around town who could transform him.” William nodded.
“Do you have any ideas what kinds of weres he’s been considering. I know quite a few female weres, of all species.” Maggie said. Traveling around the country had its perks. You met all kinds of interesting people along the way. Maggie’s friends mostly consisted of feline and canine weres. Most fellow military wives like herself.
“Aside from the obvious werewolf and werepanther, he seemed to be thinking about my suggestion he join the Skulk, or find another of the ‘big cat’ weres who might be willing to turn him.” William said.
“I’m glad I was born into this lifestyle. It’s so much easier than having to choose from all the possibilities.” Maggie thought.
“But, the bottom line, you’re okay with your son and my daughter eventually getting physical. And his becoming a were at some point.”
“Of course. It’s clear this isn’t just going to be a fling.” Martha said.
“Do you have any idea just how… intimate they have been? I know Eric’s still human, but I think the million dollar question is for how long.” Maggie said.
“I know Spencer won’t force herself on Eric. And I can’t see Eric doing so to Spencer. Right now things seem pretty safe for company. At least for the time being.” Martha added.
“As old fashioned as Eric may be, I think it’s just a matter of time. Eric’s like every other teenager, crazy hormones and everything. And Nate’s been active longer than he’ll admit to us.” William remarked.
“And I have to say, I’m glad it’s Spencer who gets Eric and not Julie. I was always worried about how that would work out. Eric’s never been much for swimming.” Martha said. The three laughed, until their children started to stare.
“Something we can join in on?” Spencer asked, sitting up.
“No, just go back to your mid-day cartoons.” Maggie said, waving a hand.
Spencer shrugged, and lay back down in Eric’s lap. Whatever they were talking about, it probably wasn’t that interesting anyway.
