College Connections

added by The Masked Writer 7 years ago O

As Jenny Harper and her fiance Harry Jenkins left William Anderson's classroom to keep Jenny's 10 am appointment with Doctor Frances Twist, the professor was the subject of conversation in the lobby of the college's administration building.
"And we do have a good English program here," Mrs. Johnson spoke. "Not necessarily the best in country... but still good. We recently hired a new professor who's focused on English literature. Specifically on Shakespeare and the literature of the "Elizabethan Era" as I was told..."
"That's my father," Nate commented, "the new professor."
"Then I'm sure he'd love to have you in his classes," Mrs. Johnson replied.
"I never really thought about being a writer before," said Nate, "and you do have to admit, not every wannabe makes it to the A-list."
"True," conceded Mrs. Johnson. "But you can also take what you learn and apply it in other ways, like maybe becoming a teacher yourself. You could go for an English major with a minor in education, concentrating on the junior and upper class levels so you don't have to be as specially instructed teaching the younger children."
"My mom's an elementary school teacher, but is studying to get recertified for Moon Lake right now, so she's only a sub at the moment," revealed Nate.
"Then, whether you know it or not, education is in your blood young man. You could teach by day and write at night until you find success in the literary world. Or maybe keep teaching even after you make it famous. Either way, I would still recommend at least a basic introductory business course to help you out with your financial matters, unless your boyfriend obtains some kind of a business degree along with honing his culinary skills here at Moon Lake College," pointed out Mrs. Johnson.
"How did you—" began Alex.
"The way you two keep looking at each other, I know," she replied with a nod. "Congratulations. I wish you two all the best."
"Thank you," said Nate, "but this is a lot to think about."
"I agree, which is why you're wise to get a jump on this during our open house today, instead of waiting until the high school's annual formal tour of our facilities next Spring for the junior and senior classes. Let me get you the brochures concerning what we've discussed," added Mrs. Johnson, briefly turning back around to her portable file cabinet.
"Here you go," she said, handing Nate the information. "Now then, it's only a quarter of ten now, and our open house lasts until four. Feel free to tour the campus grounds. You'll find information booths like mine in the lobby of every building. Then Mrs. Johnson turned to face Alex. "If you still want to tour the culinary course more closely but don't find it on your own, any of my fellow greeters can properly direct you to that building."
"Thank you ma'am," said Alex, shaking her hand.
"Speaking of directions, could you please tell me where I can find my father? Professor William Anderson," requested Nate, while looking at the information in his hand.

MEANWHILE...
Ben Twist followed his girlfriend Kenya Adaeze's directions to the letter, and found himself parking next to her moped in one of the student parking lots. As he leaned against his now secured car, Ben saw he didn't have long to wait, for Kenya was coming out of a nearby building, a smile growing on her face as she spotted him.
"Hello my wonderful werewolf," she said, before sitting her books on his trunk lid before wrapping her arms around him and giving Ben a very loving kiss. "I missed you."
"And me you," agreed Ben, once their lips reluctantly parted. "But I love how you greet me."
"I hope that is not the only thing you love about me," teased Kenya, as she secured her books in the basket on her moped's handlebars.
"No. That's just the tip of the iceberg," Ben reassured her. "Say, let's see if your moped fits in my trunk," he suggested, which it did. Barely, but it did.
"So, does this mean you will be giving me a ride home when our date is over?" she asked, wrapping her arms around him again.
"I hope the date isn't over when we finish here. I'm yours for the whole day, if you want me," offered Ben.
"I do," replied Kenya. "In more ways than one," she seductively whispered in his ear.
Kenya smiled as Ben did, but a quick glance downward toward his waist added to her joy. "Now then, if you're agreeable, I thought we'd walk around the campus a bit first. You have shown me your town, but this is the closest I have to present anything in return."
"Sure. No problem," said Ben, taking her hand in his as they started to walk off.
"I did not know this when I first suggested our date, but the college is having an informal open house today for the high school students. Would you like to stop by there and see what might lie in your future?"
"You mean besides you dear Kenya? I'd love to," replied Ben, giving her a quick peck on the cheek as they continued walking.
