Amy held out the vial, and Mary gulped it down. The little girl was nervous, and dropped the vial before Mary could drink it all. Mary tried lapping the solution off the ground.
Damn! I hope I got enough, thought Mary as she felt herself begin to change.
"Sorry about that, Mara, " said Amy, as she bent down and picked up the vial. "Maybe we can get some more ..."
Amy gasped when she turned and saw Mara.
Poor girl, thought Mary. Hope I don't freak her out too much when I am human.
Mary shifted uncomfortably. She looked at her hands, and saw that they still looked the same. But her body felt strange. She knew something was changing. She looked up at the grinning face of Amy. The rapidly enlarging face of Amy! She looked around and saw that everything was getting bigger.
Oh my God, thought Mary. Was that a shrinking vial?
She looked at her hands. The claws were less sharp, less mature. She idly felt her feathers. They were softer.
No, I am getting younger, she thought. Her thoughts were getting muddier, as she began to regress mentally.
Amy reached down and hugged her. "Oh, Mara, you are so cute! Just like a little puppy or kitten! I can't wait to take you home and take care of you. I am really good with pets, and I just know you will love it on the farm! I will feed you and love you just like all the other animals."
Amy easily carried the small creature out of the cave, leaving the box of vials behind. Mary struggled in the girl's grip, but it was no use. She was so small now.
Not Mara, she thought dully. Not animal. I am ...
Mary couldn't remember. She just knew she was hungry, and that this girl had offered her food. She would think about it later, after she had fed on the farm.
