"Well, they all came from the same shelf as yours - mythological. I didn't want us all to be gryphons, so I chose a special one for each of us. Violet likes dogs, so I chose the one with a picture of a dog. I think it was a dog called Cerberus or something," said Amy.
"Cool, thanks, " said Violet. "Ruff, ruff."
Dark black fur was quickly spreading across her body.
"Gwen likes mermaids. I couldn't find one of those. But there was something that looked like the sea witch from the Little Mermaid. I think it was called Kraken," said Amy.
"Gross! I don't want to be a sea witch," said Gwen.
"But you'll be able to breath underwater," said Amy.
"That's pretty cool, I guess, " said Gwen. Her legs had turned a dark grey, and the skin had a slick smooth look. Suddenly, her legs split into multiple thin tentacles. Small suckers began growing on her limbs.
"Cool, " she said, as she wagged her tentacles at the others.
"And Abby - well, she is a little shy. But I know she loves dragons. She has stickers of them all over her notebooks, " said Amy.
Abby's skin was dark green. She was staring at her hands, as the grew into long claws. "I don't know about this, Amy. It feels really weird, " said Abby.
"Oh, don't worry. It's fun. Mara and John did it and it didn't hurt them, " said Amy.
Amy skirt suddenly ripped, revealing rapidly enlarging thick thighs ending in hooves. White fur covered her legs. Amy giggled. "And, of course, I love horses. Well, unicorns to be precise." A long curled horn erupted from her forehead. She concentrated, and the tip glowed.
"Cool, " said Amy, as she looked at the glowing light.
Mary began to back away from the table, and she grabbed John by the arm.
"We have to get out of here. Now, " said Mary softly.
John looked at her quizzically. "What's the big deal? Like Amy said, we took the same thing and it didn't hurt us."
Violet had grown out of her clothes. Two lumps formed on her neck, and rapidly grew into small dog heads. "Whoa, weird, " said Violet. One of the dog heads snapped at her. "Hey, watch it ." She snapped back with surprisingly sharp canine teeth.
"My head feels funny," said Gwen. Her entire body was now a slick grey. She, too, had grown out of her clothes. Her body was large, but her head was disproportionately larger. It seemed to be elongating into a long cone shape. Her eyes were huge, and her abdomen seemed to be getting smaller. Her tentacles continued to multiply and grow longer and thicker. They seemed to be wiggling wildly out of he control.
Abby was still silent. She was now 10 feet tall, and covered in thick green scales. Spikes protruded down her back to her thick growing tail. She was crouched on all fours, her hands and feet now completely claws. And yet she still continued to change, growing even larger.
Amy continued to stare at the light from her horn. She now had the body a white horse, with a long white tail and mane. Only her face still looked human.
"You don't understand. I'm human, just like you. I just had an accident and ended up like this. But I used a combination of normal animals, nothing from the mythological section. And I just used a portion of the vials, not the whole thing. Before your sister gave me some of the "Human" vial, I was almost feral. And I am an adult. God knows how it will affect those children. They used vials for monsters for God's sake! " said Mary.
John looked around at the girls. They had grown frighteningly large. Only Amy was anywhere near their size. And they were looking less human by the minute. John stood up and slowly backed away with Mary.
"Where are you going, John? You are going to miss all the fun," said Amy dreamily, as her face elongated into the muzzle of a horse.
Violet snarled. "Ow, my head. They won't listen. They want me to do things. Things I don't like. Stop. Stop it" yelled Violet, as her voice drifted into a series of snarls and barks as her jaw shifted into a dog's muzzle.
Gwen was now a mass of tangled tentacles, ending in a large squid-like head with a gaping beaked mouth. The tentacles latched onto things, throwing them into the mouth, as it slowly treaded towards the lake.
Abby's face was now a sharp snout filled with dagger-like teeth. A snake-like tongue ran along her mouth. Small spouts of flame erupted occasionally from her maw. She looked at them with cold reptilian eyes. Evil looking curved horns slowly grew from her head.
John was getting worried, but he couldn't leave his sister. Not in the company of monsters like this.
"But she's my sister. I have to help her!" said John.
"She can take of herself. But if we don't get out of here, one of them is going to kill us," said Mary. She jumped in the air and flapped her wings. John followed her example, and joined her in the sky. Below them, the chaos continued.
Violet looked up at them and snarled. The three heads snapped at their feet, just out of reach in the sky. Violet turned then to Amy and charged. A bright bolt of light erupted from her horn, sending the beast flying backwards. It shook its head, then ran into the barn and tore apart a horse.
Gwen was seated in the lake. Large long tentacles snaked out of the lake, dragging cattle into the water and ultimately her gut.
Abby slowly walked into the forest. She spat flames at a deer, then ate her well-cooked prize. She continued on, deeper into the forest, in search of more prey.
John nearly fell out of the sky when Mary grabbed his hand. "We have to get those vials. It's our only chance. And their only chance, too!"
John turned and followed her through the sky to the barn.
