Too much, thought Mary, as she grunted on the floor. I can't control it. It's just too much.
The hair faded from her chest, as rib cage rapidly expanded. Her skin became a slick grey from her neck to her abdomen. Large slits formed on her neck and became gills. Mercifully, she could still breath air normally. Now she just had the added benefit of being able to breath underwater. A large shark fin grew from her back.
Please, thought Mary. Please stop. I can't take much more.
But her prayers were not answered. Her tail grew longer, thicker and wider. It quickly grew to over 10 feet in length, and whipped around the room wildly. The tail was covered in scales. The end of the tail formed strange bulges, becoming a rattle. The spines on her back quickly trailed down her new rattlesnake tail.
Mary moaned as her head ached. Her fur receded and with a sickening crunch the back of her skull bulged into a slanted dome. Her brain rabidly grew as her skull continued to expand. The skin of her face was smooth and black, and her snout receded into a small beak. Soon, she had the large head of a squid.
She thought the changes were done when she felt the sides of her chest and abdomen tingle. She saw long thin tendrils wiggling as they slowly worked their way past her flesh. They rapidly grew in size, becoming the tentacles of an octopus. Large suckers formed on the tentacles, and as they flipped wildly around the room they gripped and released random objects.
Mary tried to control the arms, but she found it hard. It was difficult just to think anymore. She found her mind filling with conflicting thoughts, desires, and emotions. Every part of her seemed in conflict. But they all shared one need. The need for food.
Mary tried to crawl her changing body towards the box. It was her only hope. As she passed Max, she saw that he was beginning to change, too. Thankfully, he was still unconscious from the previous blow. She was glad she didn't have to fight him as well as herself. She didn't get much of a chance to examine him, as one of her tentacles grabbed him and tossed him into her gaping maw.
Nooo! she thought. She wanted to scream, but she was no longer capable of speech. She could feel the dog thrashing in her belly, as it was quickly dissolved by the acids in her large stomach. I am sorry Max. I didn't mean to hurt you. I didn't mean for any of this to happen.
Mary didn't have long to mourn and regret. As her body absorbed Max and the vial solutions still in his body, she began to change again.
She screeched as her squid beak extended into the long beak of an eagle. Large eagle wings erupted from her back. Her vision swam as several new spider eyes grew up her long flat forehead. She saw multiple images for a while, until her brain finished changing and she could accumulate the multiple sources of visual input into one distinct image. Two large mandibles grew beside her large beak.
Two new tails grew from the base of her spine. On top, the new tail curved into a long scorpion tail, bulging at the tip as its sac filled with deadly poison. The tail forming below bulged into a large striped oval, with a large bee stinger at the tip.
Two more sets of wings erupted form her back. A pair of large veiny bat wings in the middle, and some thin delicate insect wings closer to her tail.
Mary was horrified by her appearance. Her mind raced with alien thoughts. But she still knew that her only hope was the human vial, and she trudged on. A knock on the door startled her and she hissed, a long thin forked snake tongue wriggling out of her mouth. What fool would be bothering her now?
"Mary? Are you okay? I got your call, " said John. "Is there a problem with Max?"
Mary grunted in frustration as four more insect-like limbs erupted from her lower abdomen. She couldn't let him see her like this. She frantically began crawling more quickly towards the box of vials, trying to ignore the fact that the thought of eating John was beginning to make her salivate.
"Mary? What's that noise? Open the door!" said John, as he began to try to open the door.
Mary ignored him, and rifled through the vials.
