Melissa Stovall felt a headache coming on, but found out she was low on aspirin, so wanted to save it for the drive home.
Their man was late coming back from Seattle with the new cable for the computer upgrades at Moon Lake High School because of a flat tire.
Then there was this growling noise coming from one of the classrooms, as the werecat she hired for the day to help string the new cables had found and attacked a mouse nest in the ceiling.
Melissa didn't mind the woman having a quick snack, but they discovered that the mice had partially eaten through one of the relay nodes her company had installed over the summer, so she had to send a worker back to the shop for a replacement.
"So, what's our projections look like now?" Melissa asked Jack, her head electrician and defacto foreman, since she believed in promoting from within whenever possible.
"I have no idea about our operational budget, since my boss takes care of that, Boss; but provided all goes well, we will now hopefully be out of here by 3, 3:30 at the latest," he replied, knocking on a wooden door frame as he spoke.
"Just like a normal school day," she said with a half smile. "Okay. Keep at it while I go brief the principal," said Melissa, as she left the new work area.
But as Melissa Stovall walked towards the front of Moon Lake High School, she couldn't help wondering what she would find when she finally got home. Her daughter and her boyfriend, the normal Eric Anderson; or Julie a happy were-mermaid with the newest were-merman of Moon Lake?
MEANWHILE...
"And so you see dear Ben, my class days are pretty much the same as yours, studying and learning," said Kenya Adaeze, as she finished walking her boyfriend through the academic halls of Moon Lake College. "World History, Economics, Business Management, Social Humanities, and the rest are helping me prepare for the future I originally planned for. A business career where I hope to not only be successful by the time I'm 30, but also hope to be in a position able to help others in the process."
"What do you mean, originally planning for?" asked Ben Twist, holding his girlfriend's hand in his.
"Well, my career goals are the same, although something else has happened along the way that I'll discuss in a moment," began Kenya. "I feel that there are many wrongs in this world that should be addressed and righted. Those in power, especially those rich and in power, have created a lot of the problems without offering any solutions that didn't somehow include them getting richer in the process. It is well past the time that situation was changed."
"How do you plan to do that?" wondered Ben.
"My wish is to find long term employment at a company that is already socially conscious, like Tachibana Enterprises, and proceed from there to help those who want to help the world succeed beyond their wildest dreams. For example, did you know that Jonas Salk never patented the vaccine for polio because he wanted to make sure everyone was protected in hopes of wiping out the disease in his lifetime?" she asked.
"Yes."
"That is my long term professional objective. To help the Jonas Salks of the world, even if their specialty is not medicine." Kenya never mentioned that her own portfolio was now self-sufficient enough to totally pay for her college education, and if it continued as she hoped...
"So, you want to be a real life Bruce Wayne or Tony Stark?" asked Ben, not realizing how close to the truth he was.
Kenya had to stop for a moment to place the references, then said, "Yes, but without the cape or armors. Yet, while it was something I always hoped for in life eventually, something else happened along the way too."
"What?" he wondered, looking at her closely.
"I fell in love," she said with a smile, wrapping her arms around him as they began to kiss.
"Good. Because I'm deeply in love with you too," replied Ben, as they continued their conversation without any words.
