"Sorry, rules are rules. They were part of the pack that attacked you, so they will be punished. Don't worry. It's nothing severe. They will just be locked up for a little while, " said the employee.
The girls joined the other wolves in a loud whine.
"We were just playing, " said one of the younger wolves.
"And now you have to pay the price. If you behave, you'll be let go and will get to enjoy at least a little of what is left of your vacation, " said the employee.
"But sir, those are my kids, " said Jason.
"And they will be taken care of very well, I assure you. And at the end of your vacation, they will be returned to you unharmed. Assuming of course they don't break any more rules," said the employee.
The girls ducked their heads in shame.
"But we weren't doing anything, honest," said Nina.
Julie gave her a little kick with her rear leg. "We'll be good. We promise."
The employee looked at her skeptically. "We'll see. And as for you sir .... well, I suggest you might find your vacation more enjoyable if you spend it with others of your kind. I believe I saw a large gathering of squirrels just a few trees over, just past that large rock to your left."
"That sounds fun, but I am still a little worried about my kids. Maybe I should switch to a wolf instead, so I can watch over them, " said Jason.
The employee sighed. "That is an option, sir. Just let me take care of these troublemakers, and I will be right back to help you. Please wait here."
The employee walked out of sight, dragging the pack of wolves with him. After waiting what seemed like hours, the employee failed to return. Jason considered just joining the other squirrels. While he was waiting he saw a nice female squirrel beckon him to follow her. He could almost hear them in the distance, laughing and having fun. He really wanted to join them. It was a vacation, after all, and the employees seemed to know what they were doing. His kids should be fine on their own. But it was a little disturbing that the employee had not returned. Had something gone wrong? Or had he just forgotten about him?
It was getting late, and Jason didn't want to spend the night alone in the tree. He needed to make a decision soon.
