Cindy tapped her foot impatiently as Mary listened to the music coming from the phone, on hold waiting to hear from Dr. Johnson.
This is a nightmare, thought Cindy. If this doesn't stop soon, I'll end up as a freak!
Cindy was beginning to stress out, and the children weren't helping. They danced around her, taunting her.
"Cindy is growing! Taller and Taller! Cindy is growing! Taller and taller!" chanted Billy and Missie as they danced around her.
Finally, she couldn't take it anymore. Her anger was boiling over.
"You little bastards! Can't you shut your little traps and leave me alone for one Goddamn minute!" yelled Cindy.
Everyone stopped and stared at her in shock. Billie looked like he was going to cry, but Missie was smiling a wicked grin. Cindy was a little surprised herself. She didn't know what came over her. She usually didn't get that angry. It had to be the hormones or something. Cindy clamped a hand over her mouth, embarrassed by her outburst.
Suddenly, she felt the familiar tingling. She expected to see the room expand around her as she shrank. Instead, she felt herself rise up, as if she was standing on her toes.
Well, I guess that answers that question, thought Cindy. I must grow when I get worked up now. I just need to control my emotions.
The small towel hugging Cindy's body slipped off her new larger frame. Everyone stared at her nude body. Mark paid close attention, and it looked like he had an erection in his pants. Cindy grew bright red with embarrassment and immediately shot up another inch in height.
"Whoa, " said Missie. "Now she grows when she gets scared. I guess she aint a shrinker no more."
Cindy turned and ran into Mary and Mark's room, slamming the door behind her. She plopped down on the bed nude, as no clothes would now fit her much larger frame.
Just keep calm and everything will be okay, thought Cindy.
She tried to get some sleep, but her large body did no fit comfortably in the bed. She found her feet sticking over the edge of the mattress. So Cindy just laid there, and tried to meditate.
A little over half an hour later, Cindy heard a knock on the door.
"You okay in there?" asked Mary from the other side of the door.
"Yes, " said Cindy, her voice muffled by the pillow she had buried her face in. She turned her head. "What do you want? Just leave me alone!"
Mary paused, as if unsure what to say to her poor big sister. After a beat, she said," I got in touch with Dr. Johnson and explained everything. He is not sure what went wrong. He can't reverse any changes in height you have already had, but he has some kind of inhibitor that can prevent any more growth. He is on his way, and should be here soon. He said in the meantime you should avoid any kind of excess stress or extreme emotions."
"Thanks, " said Cindy glumly.
"No problem, " said Mary. "Do you need anything in there? Are you hungry?"
"I think I just need to be alone right now, " said Cindy.
"Okay. If you change your mind, just ask, " said Mary, as she quietly walked away.
Cindy chuckled. So I am stuck this way? thought Cindy. Well, 6'4" isn't too bad. There are lots of girls that tall. Like models. Volleyball stars. Or maybe I could take up basketball, I would fit right in with that crowd. I would look normal.
Cindy tossed the pillow across the room angrily. Oh, who am I kidding? I am a freak! I will never be able to get a guy, much less find decent clothes to wear. I wanted to be taller but not like this!
Cindy felt her emotions build in intensity, almost reaching a breaking point. She quickly tried to calm herself.
Okay, okay. Take it easy, she thought. I can live with 6'4". It's not that bad. Just please God, no more. Let it stop at that.
She laid back down and buried her head in sheets, praying that Dr. Johnson would get here soon.
