Mary continued to cower in fear when she hear other voices. The hunters from earlier! Before she might have been running (or flying) for her life, but now she was never so glad to hear their approach. Mary stuck her head out the entrance of the den and watched Amy prowling around the ruined forest for her.
"Not a gryphon, but it'll do!" One of the men shouted. He fired his rifle at Amy, whose scales prevented any real damage. But it did irritate the crap out of her
"Hey!" she cried, turning around. When she did, she released another torrent of fire, and her tail knocked down another row of trees.
"Oops." Amy again, accidentally released a jet of fire torching the land around her. Mary wanted to jump out of her hiding place and explain the situation. But she got the feeling she was lucky she was still alive. Amy was indiscriminately crushing everything around her. The girl didn't realize how much damage and havoc she was causing.
"Mary! Mary where are you?! Make them stop!" Amy shouted, but nothing but fire came out of her mouth. This time the blast hit the outer field of her family's farm. John was there, having gone back to find his sister, who obviously wasn't there. He looked high and low, and then decided to rejoin the hunters. His mother and father were already gone, having gone for the police long ago when John told them Amy was missing.
And as he ran through the fields back towards the park, he was a giant red dragon prowling around. All John could think about was his sister somewhere in the woods, possibly lost, or worse... And then the dragon roared, fire engulfing the area around him. John was trapped. He tried to jump past the fire, but the flames licked his clothing. He stripped his shirt off, and ran as the fabric burned. But the dry air and wheat field were not match for the inferno. John screamed as the dragon shot flames again, and this time he couldn't escape.
Amy continued to search for her friend. But when she couldn't fine Mary, she began to cry out for her parents or even her brother. Not knowing her parents were the ones who sent the hunters, or that she'd just roasted her brother alive.
Mary, still hidden in her den with her arms pulled over her head, suddenly felt someone touching her arm. She nearly screamed when she saw it was one of the hunters. His green eyes cut through all the dirt and grime on his face.
"Come on! Unless you want to end up dragon feed!" he barked at her. Clinging to the box like it was a life preserver, Mary went with him. Completely naked, Mary didn't care at the moment. Running for her life was more important than modesty, or a lack there of.
The hunter ran her across the charred park, and into a building across the way. Outside, the hunters, the police, even army troops, continued to attack the dragon that had once been Amy. At this point, whatever humanity she had left was gone. The only things she felt were angry, and fear. And these tiny creatures launching bits of metal at her weren't making her feel any better.
