Since Jennifer Harper had first warned the town about her family and Dieter Wilhelm, Moon Lake had been marshaling their forces to not only protect its citizenry, but its secret(s) as well.
While they had been expecting something sneaky to be pulled, local authorities all believed it would have been closer to the Harper-Jenkins wedding next weekend, not now.
But that didn't mean they would be caught unaware (no pun intended).
Within moments of hanging up with Campus Security, one guard came to talk to Ms. Lawson to check dorm security cameras and get a more detailed report of the incident, while others were covertly patrolling the grounds looking for the suspect, including agents from Tachibana Security itself.
They soon had Mark Wilson's scent and were on the trail but their orders, until told otherwise, were to follow and maintain surveillance on the suspect, because they wanted to know exactly who he was and what his agenda/orders were.
Then they would proceed accordingly.
MEANWHILE...
Before settling in at his campsite, Mark Wilson had stopped at the local diner for his first decent meal since hitting the road days ago.
Besides, he was tired of beans, coffee, and beef jerky.
He had to admit that his order was the best steak dinner he had in a mighty long time and strongly considered stopping there again for a "victory" meal before heading back to Alabama at the completion of his mission.
But his other purpose in stopping there was to look at the local phone directory.
Moon Lake being such a small town, with a population of barely over 6,000; the weekly TV Guide magazine was thicker than their phone book.
His search confirmed the address for Moon Lake College. He didn't think there would be any listings under "Harper", but was surprised to find THREE listings under "Jenkins". Two residential and one business: Jenkins Construction.
Not knowing that one was the main Jenkins residence, where Harry and Jenny currently were at the moment; the second was where Harry's brother lived and the construction business his, Wilson decided to wait until morning to start checking them out to be less conspicuous.
Reaching his campsite, Wilson was about to turn in when he heard a noise.
Pulling his side arm, he turned ready to fire, but only saw a large dog in the distance.
It was near a tree, doing what dogs do near trees.
Thinking nothing further of the incident, Wilson crawled into the stolen camper and went to sleep with the side arm under his pillow and his rifle within reach, not knowing that what he saw was a were-canine member of the Moon Lake Police Department quickly distracting him from thinking anything was amiss, and that they now had their suspect under surveillance.
