"So, you two know each other?" Melissa Stovall asked coldly, staring between her unfaithful husband and the blonde bombshell who introduced herself as Alyssa Cooper.
"It was long before the two of us met," said Martin hastily, trying to explain.
Uncertain what was going on, Alyssa said, "I'm a corporate lawyer. My practice takes me all up and down the Pacific Coast. I haven't been back to Moon Lake in like a good, 15 years or so. Not since I graduated from Moon Lake College."
"And what brings you back now?" wondered Mrs. Stovall.
"Among my clients is the construction company that does work for the town. Their contract is up for renewal so between that and the Mayor's office wanting the company's thoughts on improving the library building, I thought I'd handle this personally instead of delegating it to an underling and revisit my old stomping grounds. Maybe look up a few old friends too," explained Alyssa, eyeing Martin seductively.
"The Mayor's office?" repeated Melissa, looking at Martin and trying to keep from asking "She doesn't know?"
"How long are you going to be in town?" Mrs. Stovall demanded to know.
"Professionally, just a day or so. The rest of the week will be personal time. Would you like to hang out and have lunch sometime this week Marty?" wondered Alyssa.
"Err..." was all Martin Stovall could say.
"High school graduation is coming. Marty," Melissa angrily reminded him of her promise not to file for divorce until after their daughter Julie graduated.
"Look, I've got the feeling I've might of come in the middle of something here," realized Alyssa, knowing tact was now the best approach in hoping to get everything she wanted.
"You could say that," agreed Melissa.
"Maybe while I'm in town, the two of us can get together over lunch or something. We've obviously got a few things to talk about," added Alyssa. "Well..." began Melissa, not knowing what to say, for none of Martin's past trysts ever expressed any interests in his life outside of sex.
Martin Stovall's complexion actually turned pale at the thought of his wife getting together with one of his past flings.
"Here," said Alyssa, pulling a business card out of her purse and scribbling a number on the back. "That's my private cell. Call me if you feel like it. No pressure," she added, handing the card to Melissa. "I'll see myself out. It was nice meeting you."
