The Dragon's agony reached out across the forest, through the magic filled air around the two fairies. Neither remembered the creature as anything but a dragon, but they knew and felt its anguish. As they were magical creatures, Mara and Amethyst could not help but feel pity on the poor dragon and took off for it.
Meanwhile in the smoldering ruin of what had been her farm. Sandra lashed and slashed, eating her own horses and cattle, lost in the throes of her anger and driven to deeper despair by what her instincts were doing. She lay down, sobbing, sounding like an earthquake. The dragon did not notice the little fairies hovering over her.
"Poor thing," Amethyst said. "So sorry and sad."
"We'll make you happy and glad," Mara said. The two joined hands and began a spell. As the spell fell around the dragon, its massive body shrank, regressed and became compact. Soon all that remained in the smoldering ruin of the farm was a beautiful gold and red egg. The fairies touched it. "Begone all evil from this form, all things that made you forlorn. Be reborn in our light, a good dragon to serve right..."
Then they fluttered away....
