Detectives Denny Miles and Jensen Lukasky were waiting for Doctor Frances Twist in the main lobby of the Moon Lake Police Department when she arrived a little after 9:30 that morning.
"Are we ready?" she asked them, after exchanging greetings.
"As ready as we'll ever be. Yvette Smith was transferred back from the hospital last night with a clean bill of health, physically," replied Detective Miles, as he led the way back to an interrogation room. "She spent the night in our female holding area and there's a matron standing by to bring her to us. Bartholomew Smith is also our guest at the moment, and a guard is waiting word to escort him here as well," added Miles, as they entered the interrogation room. "So what's the plan?"
"We bring Yvette in first. I talk to her for a moment or two before we announce that we've found her biological father. Then bring her Uncle Bart in and see how the two of them react," said Frances.
"That's it?" asked Lukasky. "Hi. You're a rogue werevixen whose going away for two counts of violating Moon Lake Statute 1-A*, but guess who your daddy is?"
"Basically," confirmed Frances. "Yvette's claim that she is now allegedly not only cured and remorseful of her past misdoings is interesting, as well as the fact she also claims to now be a confirmed lesbian. Even if all that is true, and I found no proof either way, despite her upbringing and newly discovered background, she still knew right from wrong, and thus was legally within her right mind when she clawed William Anderson and Jennifer Harper. Unless something truly miraculous happens within the course of the next half hour or so, this is just closure for all parties involved before I write up my report over the remainder of the weekend and submit it to the court Monday morning."
"And if something miraculous does happen?" asked Miles, after summoning for Yvette to be escorted to them.
"Then I'll have to adjust my findings accordingly," was Doctor Twist's only reply.
The matron ushered Yvette Smith into the room, then stood in the corner behind the prisoner while Twist, Miles, and Lukasky talked to her for a couple of minutes. Everything seemed like a formality to Yvette, going back over her statements with Doctor Twist from the past week, talking about her feelings, and other matters. No mention was made of the serious jail time she'd be facing.
Then the detectives dropped the bombshell about finding her biological father during the course of another investigation.
"REALLY?" asked Yvette, torn between shock and surprise. "Can I meet him?"
The detectives looked at each other, and then at Doctor Twist, before Miles replied, "I don't see why not. Let me go have him brought in here," before he momentarily left the room.
"Do I look okay? How presentable am I? What's he like? Who is he?" began Yvette, rattling on a lot of questions before Detective Miles reentered the room.
"Are you ready?" he asked.
Yvette looked at Frances, who simply said, "It's your call."
The rogue werevixen took a deep breath in hope of calming down, then nodded her head.
Miles got back up and nodded to someone outside the interrogation room. Then he stood aside as a guard entered, bringing Yvette's biological uncle Bartholomew "Bart" Smith with him.
Uncle Bart sat down at the table across from his niece/daughter, while Yvette Smith stared at him in disbelief. "Is this a joke?" she asked.
"DNA tests don't like," answered Lukasky.
"Besides, we also go it straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak," said Miles.
"Well? Is it true?" Yvette demanded to know.
"I'm afraid so," admitted Bart. "I truly loved my sister and your mother, perhaps more than I should have."
"Did the two of you form a life/mate bond?" Yvette demanded to know, asking about that special connection between mated werefoxes.
"I never did with her, and if your mother did with me, she never said," was Bart's only reply.
"All these years," began Yvette in a low voice, shaking her head in disbelief. "All these years of not know who my father was, going after sugar daddies and older men trying to full the emptiness in my life not having a father a created. All those years of being around only whenever the whim actually struck you to visit, pretending not to know who my father really was while having a good laugh at my expense," complained Yvette.
"That was as much your mother's wishes as my own schedule," pointed out "Uncle" Bart.
"HOW COULD YOU?" Yvette demanded to know.
"Your mother and I were home alone when she experienced her first transformation prematurely. There was no one else available, so I honestly thought I was helping her out," said Bart, sticking to the same story he told whoever asked him since his secret was discovered. "But one thing led to another and we enjoyed it regularly whenever I was in the area. We never planned on having kits, let alone you. But somehow she screwed up taking her birth control pills and—"
"So I'm an unfortunate accident that's mom's fault?" asked Yvette.
"I never said that honey," replied Bart.
"Don't honey me old man. Get him out of here before I kill the bastard!" shouted Yvette, even as she strained against the chains keeping her in place at the table.
The guard was quick to usher Bart Smith out of the interrogation room even as the matron moved closer in case she was needed to help restrain the rogue werevixen.
"So what happens now?" wondered Yvette Smith, after she finally calmed down.
"Now we all go on about our lives. Whether or not you and your father/uncle can ever come to terms, let alone actually reach some kind of reconciliation is between the two of you," replied Doctor Twist.
"Not in my lifetime. At least, not the way I feel right now," said Yvette.
"Understandable," said Frances.
"But what happens to me personally?" asked Yvette.
"That will be up to the court to decide," was Frances' only answer, before the matron took Yvette back to her cell.
When they were alone, Detective Miles asked, "So, were those the results you were expecting?"
"Pretty much," admitted Frances. "Yvette just got quite a shock. It will take time for her to process and accept the truth."
"I'm surprised Yvette didn't try to attack him right then and there," said Lukasky.
"She's angry enough to have wanted to, but smart enough to know she wouldn't have been successful. You will have to keep an eye on those two in case they have any further interactions though," pointed out Frances.
"Don't worry about that. The prison has separate wings for males and females. So what now?" wondered Miles.
"My report will stand as is once I finish writing it up, and then it will be up to a court judge to decide the Smiths' futures. Thank you for all your help gentlemen," said Doctor Twist, shaking each detective's hand before leaving.
