The group swam deeper down, as thoughts buzzed in your head. You were about to say something, when Corey asked a question. "So, are there... mermen?"
"No." Kelly said with a giggle. "That's a myth. Merfolk are entirely female."
Nina then chimed in. "It's funny how humans assume there needs to be men if there are women."
"Mermaids neither need men..." Clarissa began, swimming next to Barbara, wrapping her arms around her.
"...nor do we desire them." Barbara finished, before the two pulled each other into an impassioned kiss. You found yourself looking at Corey again, imagining her lips against yours. You wonder if this isn't another effect of your transformation, like your eye color changing.
You, Corey and the other mermaids soon arrived at an undersea cave. "Are we going in there?" Corey asked.
"No human diver or machine can make it far in here." Polly said. "There are narrow passages that only a mermaid can enter."
"It seems... dark." you said.
The mermaids smiled at each other and began to concentrate. One by one, the scales of their tails began to glow, along with their "makeup", and even the strands of their hair began luminescing from their scalps, to the ends. They even saw the mermaids' irises glowing when they opened them. It was an awe inspiring sight, to say the least. Soon, they were bright enough to collectively illuminate the cave nearly one and a half times over.
"Whoa," you and Corey gasped, "I wish we could do that!" Corey added.
"You could if you became real mermaids." Clarissa said in an obvious beckoning tone.
"Now, now; we mustn't try to influence them like that, we must allow them to make the decision on their own!" Loreli scolded; "Though, what she said is true." She told you and Corey. "Stick close to us, we wouldn't want you to get lost here." You and Corey swam close together as they stayed near Loreli. Out of the corner of your eye, you could see Corey looking at you. You turn to look, and she snaps her head back forward.
The bioluminescent mermaids all kept in a formation allowing the two of you to have as clear of a view of your surroundings as possible, only breaking formation when they needed to enter a narrow passage. Soon you reached a large cavern with a long, but narrow fissure up on the ceiling, allowing the rising sunlight to shine through.
The mermaids glow faded as all of you were perfectly fine to see now. This place was home to an amazing array of sea life.
"We promised you wonders only a mermaid can see;" Nina said; "so here we are." You and Corey went off to explore different parts of the cavern. There was so much to see, you started to lose track of time, and almost forgot the tension you felt with Corey. Soon, you spot what was possibly the loveliest seashell you've ever seen. You swim over and put your hand on it, only for it to be met with another hand, which belonged to none other than Corey.
