The warmth of the summer day glides over you like a breeze. You sigh, taking in the floral aroma of the lilac bushes growing next to the path. It's about 8:00 PM and the sun is starting to sink below the trees. With nothing better to do, you decide to watch the sunset. It would be more fun with a friend, but hey, take what you can get, right? You stray off the path a little bit and come to a small field with ankle-high grass. Sighing in pleasure, you sit cross-legged and watch as the sinking sun lights the sky up.
The sky is on fire with oranges, yellows, and reds. As the sun finally reaches the tree line and descends below it, the sun is released in a patchwork of shapes as the light wicks through the trees and branches. The horizon turns a deep orange as it sinks lower and lower. A light mist has sprung up in the field along with a deep navy blue color in the sky behind you.
Twenty minutes later, the sun sinks below the trees and you're sitting in the misty field with the grayish-blue sky ahead. Ten minutes after that, the first star comes out, winking into the sky. Twenty minutes after that, you are sitting under a blanket of stars, with constellations shining brightly in the sky. You can see many planets and a few comets as they shoot by. Polaris shines brighter than ever, illuminating you with starlight.
You are left in awe of the wonders of outer space. You think back to the late great David Bowie and his fascination with space. Sitting here, in the quiet, misty field with all the wonders of outer space, stars, moons, comets, at your disposal, you feel very at peace with the world. You lay back in the grass and close your eyes, smiling as you do.
