Lana could not believe that her mother asked her that. "Diapers? Mom... what?" she spurted in confusion. "Yes, Lana" replied her mom. "Sorry I understand it sounds weird... it indeniably is. But allow me to explain."
The 15 year old girl sat next to her mother looking at her with inquisitive eyes. Michelle then began: "See, last weekend when you were at Christine's house (Lana's best friend), we received a weird package from your great-aunt Jolene. Here it is." She then proceeded to pick up a big white package that was lying at the foot of the bed and put it on her lap. "Whoah! Those are diapers?" Lana said. "Indeed they are" replied the mom, "they're hand-sewn cloth diapers made by your great aunt for you."
- "For me?"
- "Yes, for you. Aunt Jolene sent a letter with the package, she told me she felt that a gift was in order for the help you gave with her garden last summer. She also mentioned you showed great maturity in the last years and you deserved a well-earned break from the stress of grown-up life"
- "Hum, okay... But then she already gave me some cash! And why would you go on with this? I know aunt Jolene can be a little crazy and old fashioned, but you?"
- "Oh, i'm sorry if it sounds ridiculous, it probably is... When i saw the package and the letter, I couldn't help but to remember when you were a toddler, so happy and energetic, parading around the house with only your diaper on. Do you remember? You were actually pretty reluctant to be potty trained, you stopped using diapers at 6. I even recall some times you told me you liked being treated as a baby and you didn't want to grow up. I did not push you too much on it, I actually like taking care of you, changing your diaper, feeding you, washing you... The smile on your face was so great to look at... I guess i feel a bit of nostalgia from that time."
- "Wow, that throws me way back. Now that you mention it, maybe i was a bit like that. I don't remember much, though... All I know is when dad left us, I had to be strong to help you. And that's what I did... or tried to do."
- "Aww, don't worry about it, dear, you were wonderful all along. You still are."
- "Thank you mom, you've been so sweet and loving to me, I feel like i need to repay some of that love to you. Wearing diapers sound stupid, but if it pleases you, I guess I could do it for awhile."
- "Don't feel obligated to do so. It's a suggestion. Aunt Jolene's concept of giving you a break is actually not a bad idea: for some hours, you can be as childish and carefree as you want. Just look at the diapers at a way to get you in the mood."
Lana pondered with the idea. She could indeed put on the diapers as long as it was with her mom at home. For an hour or two on saturdays, before going out to see her friends, it could be manageable. It would also please her mom and great-aunt Jolene who she greatly loved and respected even if she was by all accounts a weird woman. "Okay, mom, it sounds like something doable" she said. "As long as it's here at home, i could go around wearing those. But nowhere else! And of course, i won't be using them!"
"Great! I knew you would somehow find it a good idea. I've actually bought everything needed, so if you want I could put you in a diaper right now. Of course, we can wait until you're ready." her mother replied.
Lana was a bit puzzled by her mother's enthusiam for this little thing. She wasn't sure it was the best idea to do it now, as she wanted to be mentally ready to do this.
