*short chapter just to get back into the swing of things
Eric and Cassie were walking hand in hand to their second period class when Eric hard someone calling his name from down the hallway. He looked over his shoulder, surprised to see Arthur Curtis waving a hand urgently at him.
“What do you think he wants this time?” Eric sighed, hoping Arthur wasn’t about to start something this early in the morning. And hadn’t the principal given Arthur a lecture or something? He couldn’t be stupid enough to get into another yelling match in the middle of the hall.
“Just be nice. I really doubt Arthur would pick a fight.” Cassie patted Eric’s shoulder is assurance. She hadn’t mentioned her little “chat” with Arthur, mostly because she didn’t think it was necessary to.
Arthur took a second to catch his breath, as he’d sprinted up the staircase and then down the lengthy hall to catch up to Eric and Cassie. Even weres have limits. Then he stood up straight and addressed the two werewolves in front of him. More Eric than Cassie.
“Hey, Eric. I just wanted to apologize for the way I acted at lunch the other day. I shouldn’t have said anything in front of everyone.” Arthur said as politely as he could without gasping too much. He was a swimmer, not a runner after all.
“Uh, don’t worry about it. You were just worried about Julie. How is she doing?” Eric asked.
“Better. Much better.” Arthur beamed as he spoke. He remembered Dr. Curry’s instructions regarding Eric, and said nothing else about Julie. He didn’t want to peak Eric’s curiosity. Of course Eric wasn’t interested at all in his ex, other than making sure she wasn’t lying in a morgue.
“Glad to hear it. Since you’re probably going to see her before I do, give her my regards and best wishes for the future.”
“Will do. But, no hard feelings? I don’t want you to think I’m some vulture swooping in and taking your ‘leftovers’.” Arthur extended a hand to Eric.
“Well Julie’s hardly ‘leftovers’, but no hard feelings. I hope you to are very happy together.”
“If Julie’s over me, then have at it. And if not, good luck,” Eric thought as he shook Arthur’s hand. Eric had no way of knowing Julie ’s mind had erased any trace of himself from her memory. Which, though it was cause for concern by medical standards, worked in his, Julie’s and Arthur’s favor.
The bell sounded, and Arthur was left to sprint downstairs to his class before he was too late. Cassie and Eric took their time walking each other to their respective doors. Eric departed first, but not before kissing Cassie’s cheek and sliding a hand into her back pocket. Unfortunately for him, her cell phone was in the way. A sharp remark from his teacher made Eric hastily withdraw his hand and dash inside the classroom.

Downstairs…
Nate was twiddling his thumbs in the back of his AP Government class when Arthur Curtis burst through the door looking like he’d just run a triathlon.
“Normally I’d reprimand you for being late Mr. Curtis, but I have to ask, why are you so out of breath?” The teacher asked.
“I, uh, was upstairs. Guess I’m no good on land.” Arthur breathed. The portion of the class who knew he was a weremer laughed, plus the teacher. Arthur found an empty seat close to a window, and one row in front of Nate.
Nate couldn’t help but notice the wide grin on Arthur’s face. He wondered if the guy had just gotten some good news about Julie. He’d have to ask Arthur later. Then again, why did Nate need to know? Eric didn’t seem that concerned anymore.
“Guess I’ve been spending too much time hanging around Megan.” Nate thought.
