"Rachel, could you come over here? I've got to show you something!" Jacob exclaims into the telephone.
"Sure thing, Corny," he hears, a moment later.
"Thanks," Jacob replies, "And don't call me that!"
While he's waiting, Jacob sets up a new "SCAN!" profile, and positions the Cronivac unit in an optimal spot. Soon after he finishes, Jacob hears a knock at the door. "Jake! Let me in!" a voice screams from the other side.
"Coming!" Jacob yells as he runs to the door, unlocks the 20-point security system, and lets his visitor, Rachel, in.
"So what is this thing you just had to show me?" Rachel inquires.
"It's a device-"
"Ok..."
"You didn't let me finish. It's a device that allows us to change anything, and I mean ANYTHING," Jacob says, "We just need a scan of it."
"Anything." Rachel skeptically replies.
"A-NY-TH-ING!" Jacob exclaims, while waving his arms in a sort of semicircular arc.
"Here, it would be easier to just show you. Uh... Go stand over there {points to a hastily taped X in front of the Chronivac}. I need to get a scan of you first."
Jacob finishes starting the "SCAN!" program, while Rachel walks to the X.
"Ok, SCAN!"
Again, a bright blue flash overcomes Rachel's figure, and just a second later, not a moment more, another dialogue pops up, this time reporting:

"What the..."Rachel exclaims, as her nails start to elongate, becoming black, becoming claws. Her fingers reduce in length, becoming about one joint each. Her pinkies and thumbs recede, pinkies dwindling to nothing, thumbs becoming dewclaws. Her fingers become stiffer, hands becoming paws. The skin on her palms and "fingers" puffs out and become paw-pads. Black, rough paw pads. A light coating of black fur starts to spring up on her skin, growing thicker, fluffier, until Rachel's hands are totally paws.
"How? This is amazing! Jacob! This! Is! AWESOME!" Rachel blurts out, "Though it might help to make my hands, you know, able to actually manipulate things. Just a suggestion."
"Ok." Jacob shrugs.

"I'll try it..." Jacob replies.
"What? What's wrong?" Rachel asks.
"It's just that we don't know the limitations or side effects, or anything about the Cronivac." Jacob muses.
"Eh, It'll be fine," Rachel says to him, "Try it."
"Here it goes," Jacob says.
