{{Okay, since I have no idea why Mr. Jackson needs to talk to Claire...}}
After schools across Moon Lake let out for the day, Coach Katherine "Kat" Johnson drove her temporary assistant coach (and future lover?) Martha Anderson to her first OB/GYN appointment.
Between now being a werecat and having not given birth to a child since her (then) youngest son Eric came into the world a little over 14 years ago, Martha truly didn't know what to expect from the doctor's visit.
Yet the very first surprise came as quite a shock to her as Martha started filling out the forms in the waiting room.
"What do you mean, you don't need my medical insurance information?" she asked the woman behind the counter.
"Didn't you know?" asked the administrative assistant in return. "The Skulk are covering your expenses here, at least until your baby's were species can be determined."
"I don't understand," admitted a confused Martha Anderson.
"Being the honorable clan they are, the Skulk still feel responsible for the actions of the rogue were-vixen Yvette Smith," began the assistant, not mentioning the fact that Smith killed werefox William Anderson, leaving Martha a widow. "While your initial tests at the hospital confirmed that you are pregnant and will be having a girl, the possibility exists that your baby might be a natural hybrid, making her part were-vixen. Therefore, until they know for sure whether or not that's true, Mrs. Tachibana called the doctor personally and promised that the Skulk would cover your medical expenses here."
"Wow..." was all Martha could say, for she had yet to even contact her insurance company about being pregnant. "Once Wilma's were species is confirmed one way or another, what happens then?" she asked, while rubbing her tummy. Martha was only near the end of her first trimester, but considering everything that happened, was already overly protective of her unborn daughter.
"In truth? I honestly don't know," admitted the administrative assistant. "If she does turn out to be a hybrid, little Wilma probably won't be allowed to join the Skulk outright, but my personal guess is that because of Smith's role in her life, they'll still look out for her to some extent."
"Guess I'll have to have a chat with Mrs. Tachibana when I get a chance," said Martha, before sitting down next to Kat with a clipboard full of forms to fill out.
Coach Johnson had remained silent during Martha's chat with the front desk, but secretly smiled at this new development. While she was prepared to help Martha out any way she could, even before she had that... interesting dream last night, Kat honestly wasn't sure just how much financial support she would be able to provide.
There was something about Martha Anderson, even without her being a werecat as well, that had attracted Kat to her at first glance. While it was her fondest wish, she had never dared hope any relationship between them would lead to "happily ever after" as well, but the dream Kat had overnight indicated that not only was that apparently in their future, but they would get married and become co-mothers to little Wilma too.
I overheard Martha tell the Twists when they dropped her off at school this morning that she had some kind of dream about us last night too, but I've never had the opportunity, or the nerve, to ask her about it yet, thought the weretigress, as the nurse came for Martha.
"Can my friend come too?" asked Martha nervously, looking at Kat.
"Certainly," said the nurse, unphased about the other woman either being moral support and/or the patient's spouse.
Doctor Olivia Watson was a pleasant woman. Until she spoke, Martha would never have guessed that the werepanthress was over 150 years old, for the black haired, green eyed woman barely looked 35 if she was a day.
"One of the many advantages to being a were my dear," was the doctor's only reply, as she smiled at both Martha and Kat.
The exam itself went well, although Kat did her best to hide the fact that she was very interested in seeing Martha in and out of the examining room gown, let alone watched as Martha assumed her werecat fursona for part of the visit.
"You're beautiful," Kat heard herself say in a very low voice.
"Yes, she is," whispered the doctor in agreement.
Once the physical part of the exam was over, Doctor Watson began questioning her patient. "Now then, I understand this will be your first were babe, but your third child?"
"Yes. I have two sons, now ages 16 and 14, who were born long before we moved to Moon Lake; but they're both werewolves now."
"And you're only 37 now?" asked the doctor.
"Yes. Kind of late to the party, but despite everything that's happened, I love being a werecat," said Martha with a smile.
"Good. Now, your background and the Skulk's involvement with your medical care does intrigue me a bit," admitted Olivia. "But as I told Mrs. Tachibana, the safest way to know whether or not little Wilma will be part were-vixen is to wait until after the baby's born and run a blood test on her then. There are other tests that I could do as early as the beginning of your last trimester, but I promise nothing will be done without your consent."
"Thank you doctor," said Martha.
"It's Olivia," she replied in return.
"Thank you Olivia," said Martha.
"Now, how were your sons birthed?" wondered the doctor.
"Nate, my oldest, was at risk of being a C-section because he was almost a month late coming into this world, but both him and Eric arrived naturally," revealed Martha.
"Good. I'll do a C-section if it's absolutely necessary, but most mothers prefer to at least attempt the natural method, even if they don't have a fursona. Which leads me to my next question, who is your Lamaze coach?" asked Olivia.
"Err..." began Martha, for she honestly hadn't stopped to think about a potential candidate for the position, let alone ask anyone. William had been it for both boys, but that was impossible now. So who...?
"I'LL DO IT!" shouted Kat, startling both doctor and patient.
