The rain had started falling as Nate and his boyfriend Ben were out hiking on the outskirts of their small town, looking for a quiet place to spend some time alone. A crack of thunder and a bolt of lighting cascaded, illuminating the sky and the area around it, leaving the two men dashing for shelter. Nate was the first one to spot the old house and grabbed Ben by the arm.
"Quick, over here." said Nate as the two ran towards Dusk Manor as it was clearly the closest available shelter.
"I don't know Nate, this place is pretty creepy." Ben was hesitant to follow but also didn't see any other options as the storm was quickly growing in intensity.
As they walked up to the house, they saw the front door was slightly ajar. Nate walked up and pushed it all the way open as the two men walked into the deserted house. Ben noticed a couple light switches on the wall by the door and flicked them with no effect.
"Well, I'm not sure what I expected," said Ben with a shrug.
The two men walked into the living room and looked around. On one wall was a large set of picture windows framed by equally large and drawn curtains, covered in a layer of grey dust. On the opposite wall was a large and ornate fireplace.
"I wonder if this still works." Nate grabbed some pieces of wood from the pile next to the fireplace and started placing it in the fireplace. He grabbed a few stray pieces of paper strewn about the living room and added that as well. Before long he had a nice fire going. Ben came over and sat down next to Nate in front of the fire.
"Well, this is nice at least." Ben cozied up next to his boyfriend, watching the fire.
"I can't help but want to explore this place a little. I've always wondered about this house." Nate looked around the room as the flickering flames illuminated it more.
"Me too, actually. Maybe in a bit. I just want to get warm."
Nate nodded and the two remained in front of the fire. But elsewhere in the house laid dark forces that wanted to transform this young couple in ways the two could scarcely imagine. The question remained was what would they become?
