"Agh, what happened? Where am I?" I try to sit up but something is holding my arms down. Another restraint is across my chest, and two more on my ankles. I can only see a bright light hanging over my head. I can't see past the blinding light, so who knows where I am. I can't remember what happened before I woke up. I was walking... ya, walking... home? No, maybe I was at school... or the mall? Ugh, my head is pounding.
There's a cold breeze on my body, so I look down at my feet. Then yelp when I see that I'm only wearing underwear.
"Subject is awake." A distant, mechanical voice says. Clearly female, and coming through a speaker that must be held high above my head.
"Thank you Mira." A second female voice says. I find the source is a tall woman wearing a lab coat whose face is obscured from my view. I strain against the leather bands on my body.
"Who are you? What did you do to me?"
"Nothing, yet. Just sit tight and relax. This will go a lot easier if you don't resist."
"Resist?" I repeat. I don't have time to say anything else. A sharp prick in my shoulder tells me I've just been injected with something. Cold liquid fills my veins, but my body feels like it's on fire. I can hear the woman's footsteps getting quieter, signaling she's walked away. A door opens and shuts before that robot voice speaks again.
"Subject had been dosed. Increased heart rate is the first side effect." The robot says.
"What... was in that needle?" I gasp. My muscles feel far too tense, like they're going to explode any second. In a sudden burst of energy, I pull free of the restraints. My body is covered in sweat, and I almost fall to the ground. I was lying on a table about three feet off the ground.
"Subject displays increase in strength. Heart rate is 165 bpm and rising. Body temperature is 100 ℉ and rising. Second dose ready to be administered." The robot says. I shield my eyes to see a mechanical arm extending from the floor. With a needle pointed directly at me. My body won't respond, so all I can do is stand there in horror as I'm injected with another dose of whatever the hell that liquid is. This one sends causes a less intense head to build inside my chest. My breathing is ragged as my temperature rises.
But then suddenly, it stops. I feel great. I've stopped sweating, and my heart is racing like a stock car.
"Subject has responded well to second dose. Stage 2 will commence in approximately 21.7 seconds."
"Stage 2? What's stage..."
And then it hits me.
