OKAY, for those following along and trying to figure out who is following the reporter, which is the closest we can call him to honor a classic TV show of the 1970s; here are the clues so far.
01. They are at least pro were, if not weres themselves.
02. They have yet to figure out who killed Lionel Ulysses, which is why they are following the reporter to begin with, hoping he solves the mystery for them, which means they are not part of Dymixious' (hope I spelled that right) group, and
03. Even if they are weres themselves, they plan to kill the reporter if he finds out weres exist! So if they are weres, they are definitely NOT members of the Skulk.
NOW, ON WITH OUR STORY...
The reporter knocked on the front door to the hospital's security office and introduced himself to the man who answered. It was just dumb luck that this guy also turned out to be the head of the security department himself.
Neither man took note of the security chief's assistant standing nearby, who was also working for those outside the hospital following the reporter. The assistant wasn't happy that his "other" superior interacted with the reporter first, but hovered near to monitor the situation.
After brief introductions and an explanation of why he was there, the reporter asked if hospital security had any idea who might have killed Lionel Ulysses.
"In truth, I wish I knew," admitted the security chief. "After all, when something like this happens on your turf, let alone on your watch, it gives your reputation a black eye."
"I understand, but is your staff or the police any closer to identifying Ulysses' killer?" asked the reporter.
"If the police are, they haven't told us, but I sat here for hours with a couple of their tech guys and ours, going over security camera footage," began the security chief. "We've identified a male suspect, almost 6 feet tall, wearing an all black business suit, but you never see the man's face. It's as if he knew every spot to avoid and how to keep the cameras from getting a good look at him to begin with."
"Just where are all the cameras, if I can ask," wondered the reporter.
"Well, you'll understand if I don't tell you their exact locations, but basically at every entrance, exit, public corridor, elevator landing and stairwell; along with all the places we store very expensive material like surgical equipment and medications. There are obviously no cameras in private areas, like patient rooms and the employee lockers."
"Of course. So what makes you suspect this specific person?"
"Anyway," continued the security chief, "we followed him through the footage coming into the hospital, going to the emergency ward area, and then disappearing for a bit; only to reappear just before entering the deceased's recovery room, wearing a doctor's coat. A couple of minutes later, the man leaves just as he came, totally avoiding all the cameras with expert precision to keep anyone from ever seeing his face, although he does have jet black hair. The back of it is about the only thing of him you ever get a good look at."
"And being a busy hospital, naturally no one got a got a good look at him, or paid any attention to another doctor entering a patient's room," surmised the reporter.
"Yep," replied the hospital security chief.
The reporter stopped and thought about this for a moment. All of this had the earmarks of the killer being a professional assassin, which practically ruled out the murderer being either a rival gang member or having been hired by a rival gang unless they had some VERY deep pockets. But it didn't rule out some unknown drug kingpin or anyone above that employing the killer to keep Ulysses from talking about anything he shouldn't.
The reporter thanked the hospital security chief and left, planning to interview the suspended police officer who had his head up his cellphone and failed to stop the killer next.
After the reporter left, the security chief's assistant said he was going to make his rounds and left the office.
But he did pause to call his associates to let them know that while the reporter was no closer to solving the mystery of who killed Lionel Ulysses than they were at the moment, at least the reporter also had no evidence that weres existed.
