Johnny heard a noise when he was four feet from the elevator. He spun and bolted to retreat into the elevator, but instead ran straight into a door. He could hear footsteps and giggling approaching from around the corner, so he carefully opened the door which stood where the elevator had been to make sure he didn't plummet into the empty elevator shaft.
He carefully tested the carpet on the other side of the door, and then closed the door behind him. Johnny's mind raced. He remembered watching an old TV show on DVD with his father, It was black and white, and while the woman was hot, she was like 80 or 90 now. Some episode called the House that Jack Built. It was a house built by a madman with room on tracks, so they moved, and it was designed to drive the occupant to commit suicide. But the lady was more resourceful that Jack expected. She found the control room for the house, and escaped. That's what Johnny needed to do, find the control room. There had to be one, right?
He heard the footsteps pass the door, so he opened it a crack. Maybe it was his brother or friends? He opened the door and stared down the empty corridor. Almost empty. He watched as impressions of feet appeared and disappeared in the plush hall carpet. Invisible people? Or ghosts? He shuddered and closed the door.
The room he was in was dark. He fumbled for a light switch, and flipped it on.
