Cursing yourself for not warning Leona in time, your gaze shifts to the table. Sitting there, with an ounce or two missing, is the bottle of milk. You look at Leona again, but she is too distracted to give you any indication what is wrong, apart from clutching where her human abodmen recedes into her lioness body, and dropping her leonine body to the ground. You rush over in concern, but also with a wary eye, knowing that if Leona changes, it could be into something not very friendly to you. However, as you approach, you notice something strange. Where once Leona was nearly your height, now, laying down on the ground, her head does not even reach to your waist, and it seems like it is visibly dropping. After a moment, you are sure of it, Leona is shrinking.
"Ugh, the milk must have gone sour. I guess you were right," she finally starts shakily, looking up. "What the...?! How did you get so big?!" she gasps, as you are now towering over her. However, after a second, she realizes that you are not the only thing that appears larger. "Oh, no....no...." she starts shaking again as she realizes what has happened.
Reaching down, you scoop her up in your arms as she covers her face and begins to cry. Leona's lioness body is now the size of a regular housecat, and her human and snake parts have shrunk to match. You're tempted to pet her to comfort her, but her snake tail is twitching back and forth and hissing rather ominously, obviously disturbed by what has happened.
"As if this place wasn't bad enough," Leona moans disconsolately. "How am I supposed to get out now?"
"Well, it isn't necessarily a bad thing," you say after thinking for a moment. That gets Leona's attention, and she tearfully glares up at you in disbelief. "No, really. Even if the opening to get out of here is pretty small, like through a grate or barred window, you actually might be able to fit through now. Also, since you weren't able to get around fast on four paws, this could be an improvement. I mean, now I can carry you."
Although Leona listens to your argument skeptically, at the last sentence she seems to realize her current position in your arms, and looks away, blushing. Nevertheless, you can feel that she is a little comforted by your words, and is grateful for your presence.
"Luckily you didn't drink too much. I guess neither of us get to fill our bellies, though," you say disappointedly, looking at the food laid out on the table. "I don't really want to shrink, and there's no telling what the other foods do. Maybe if we can find someone else who's tried the food they can tell us. Then again, considering what else we've run into..." you shake your head. You are about to trudge out of the kitchen, but suddenly an idea strikes you. "Hang on," you tell Leona, setting her down atop the table. Heading to the pantry, you look for something in particular. Finding it, you exit with a large burlap sack. Heading for the table, you dump all the food into the sack, then sling the sack over your shoulder. At Leona's confused look, you smile slyly.
"Well, just because we can't eat it doesn't mean we can't tempt someone else to. Plus, we know the milk shrinks things. That could come in useful," you explain. Leona nods as she begins to understand, and you scoop her off the table. You don't bother to mention that if the milk shrinks things, one of the other foods might make something bigger, which would probably not work to your advantage in a fight - unless you could get some of it to Leona fast enough to do you any good. Nevertheless, it's better than leaving with nothing. Who knows, maybe you'll find out one of the foods will revert all creatures back to being human again. You can only hope.
"Okay," you sigh, regretfully ignoring your pit of a stomach. "Which way now?"
