Jason tries to stay awake but the oxygen is limited. There is enough oxygen for survival but only if the two teens stay perfectly still and don't waste the precious resource. More than half of what the two teens breathe is noxious gasses such as methane from rotting food. It's enough to make both teens pass out.
When Jason wakes up, he is naked and sitting up on a table. His legs and arms wrap around nothing. He tries to move them but they remain bent. He looks around since his head can still move. He is in a large room filled with people. Some of the people are naked, sitting on tables like himself. Others wear work uniforms and wander from table to table. The naked people all have unusual poses but don't move much.
Jason asks, "Where am I?"
The nearest worker says, "Ah, the backpack is awake. It's such a shame when parents throw away perfectly good teenagers but Genetilabs fished you out of the garbage and recycled you. In a few days, some hiker or student will be wearing you and carrying his gear inside you."
"Wait, my parents didn't throw me away. It was an accident."
"Oh dear. That may be a problem. We've never tried reversing a recycling. Theoretically, it's possible but we can't guarantee that you would be restored 100% to human."
"Where's Ryan? Can we prevent him from being recycled or is it too late?"
"The teen that came in with you is headed for recycling now. I'll try to stop them."
