All of a sudden, the phone rang.
"Give me a second kiddo, gotta get this," Kellie said. She went over to grab the phone.
"Hello?... Oh hi. What's up?... Really? He resigned it?... Sure, I'll take it. When do you need me in by?... Today, uh, sure no problem. I'll see you in half in hour. ... Mhm, yes I'll make sure to bring that. ... Okay, see you then. ... Bye." After hanging up the phone, she turns to face a curious Katie. "Sorry kiddo, but it looks like we have to put our plans on hold. I just got a call from work. The man doing an important case just resigned, and I was next on the waiting list. This could be my big break, so I have to take it. Plus, we need the money. I'll just call a babysitter and head out."
Katie was not happy. Not only would she not be able to spend time with her mom, she had to get a babysitter.
"But mom!" Katie whined. "I'm ten. I don't need a babysitter!"
"Katie, your much too young too be left home alone. Maybe in a few years. Now, no more complaining, I have to get ready or I'll be late."
However, Kellie did feel bad leaving Katie with a babysitter. After all, she did have the ring...
