Jeremy grinned at me, his teeth movie-star perfect. "I am really glad you showed up! Most of the others would not have been able to help me out so much."
That puzzled me. "Help you out? But I haven't..." It was then that muscle spams shot up my back, and out my arms and legs to my fingers and toes. I gasped and staggered, only to be caught and held by Jeremy. I felt confused, because it seemed like I was either falling or he was rising, and my whole body felt strange. The sensations passed quickly, at least, and I pushed away from him, feeling embarrassed. "Sorry - I don't know..." Then I stopped. What was wrong with my voice? As I cleared my thoughts, I also discovered that Jeremy was looking down at me. He was taller! The handsome blonde reached out to run his fingers through my hair, which felt longer than it should. "I should say I am sorry to take so much from you, but it's way better being handsome and independent."
I was struggling to understand - Jeremy took me by the shoulders and guided me over to the mirror on the back of the bathroom door. It took me a minute to realize who the homely kid standing in front of him was. Tangled brown hair surrounded a boy's face pocked by acne, with an upturned pug nose and ears that stuck out like handles. He was small and skinny, barely in his teens and looking like he was just entering puberty. His clothes - my clothes, hung on him, baggy and far too big. I stared as Jeremy admired our reflections.
"Yeah, this is way better!" He peeled off his too-tight shirt to reveal a smooth, well-muscled chest. "Sorry, dude. This room pulls the good stuff from visitors and gives it to the person renting the room. I got your looks, muscle, maturity, all the stuff I liked about you. And you got my skinny kid's body, acne, and the start of puberty."
I finally found my voice, high-pitched and whiney. "No! This can't be happening! You gotta give it back!"
Jeremy laughed. "Couldn't if I wanted to, and I don't want to. You gotta get someone to come to this room, someone who is pretty good looking, healthy, and the aged you want to be. On a night of the full moon. And then you can take their good stuff and let them be the ugly one."
