You try to recall what was so familiar about that place. It was dark, slimy, and windy, and in the distance you could hear a barely-audible thumping. You've been all around this castle, but the only places you felt wind were on the balcony and...
"Oh no," you mutter to yourself as the sliding-thumping from the stairs grows louder. However, before you can voice a warning, Leona makes a move.
"Look, we can't just wait here for whatever-it-is to find us," Leona whispers as she hurriedly pushes open the door and steps in.
"Wait!" you hiss under your breath as you make a grab for her, but it's too late, she's already inside, and the ominous noise from the stairs is not stopping. Torn, you decide to follow Leona in carefully. You quietly close the door behind you and are relieved to hear it latch. However, you are also wondering whether it mightn't have been better to take your chances with whatever was out there, rather than what you know is in here. Before Leona can explore, you grab her arm and pull her back against the wall. "Stay out of the light, and be very careful," you say under your breath, looking around the room carefully.
"Why? What is it?" Leona says in your ear.
"There's something else down here. A we-..." As you begin to explain, your eye catches a huddled mass in the distance, and you freeze, not even daring to breathe. Feeling you tense up, Leona follows your gaze, and also catches her breath upon noting the shadow. Neither of you move for what seems like an eternity.
You can see the furry mound move up and down slightly, as though it is breathing, but it does not seem to be moving otherwise. Maybe it has not noticed you yet, but you are not certain what to do if it does. While you could use the sword to switch you and the creature's forms, you worry from your past experience that the changed you might try to tear Leona to bits. Somehow through all of your mad explorations you have managed to keep ahold of the sack of food, but you don't think you can be as lucky as you were with Cain. You're terrified, but it's pretty obvious that Leona, who's clutching your arm hard enough to cut off circulation, is scared as well. You resolve to find a way to distract the creature to give Leona an opportunity to get out. After all, at least you have wings, and can fly above it.
"Start moving along the wall and looking for a way out," you whisper in Leona's ear, who turns to give you a worried glance, but nods. As Leona skulks off to search for an exit, you decide to do something potentially stupid. The dark furry mass still has not moved, so you start tiptoeing towards it, not too close, but enough to ensure that you can stay between it and Leona if it made a move for her.
Suddenly, you hear the clickety-clack of a loose stone Leona accidentally dislodged with her paw, and you both freeze at the noise, staring at the shadowy mass. When you manage to gather your senses - and your stomach off the floor - you realize that the creature has not made a move the entire time. Clenching your fists, you count to fifty in your head, then begin to approach it.
"What are you doing?" Leona hisses from off to the side, eyes round as saucers, but you ignore her. Something here isn't adding up. After all, you barely escaped last time.
As you get within arm's length of the beast, you confirm it is a werewolf like you suspected, probably the one from before. Although your heart is leaping out of your chest, you begin to examine the werewolf carefully. It looks like it's fast asleep, but why didn't it wake up from all the noise? As you follow the contour of the werewolf's side down to its hip, you find your answer. Sticking neatly out of the fur is a wide, feathered dart. Taking a deep breath, you reach out with your hand and lightly shake the werewolf, who continues dozing away.
"It's okay, it's asleep," you call to Leona in a low voice. "It's a werewolf, it chased me earlier."
"Are you crazy?!"" Leona snaps in a shouting whisper. "It could have killed you!" Heading over to Leona, you shake your head.
"I think someone tranquilized it," you explain. "There's a dart." You look around warily, but don't see any other movement in the dark. "Look, we should get out of here. We could find a way out from down here, or..." Leona gives you a quizzical look. "...I would have to carry you." Leona looks even more confused, considering how much bigger her body is than yours. In lieu of an answer, you dig in the sack and pull out a nearly-full bottle of milk.
