"Hopefully," Moon Lake's Town Chancellor Samantha Twist said slowly as she and Katherine Chambers, Moon Lake's Deputy Mayor, continued to go over the plan for if weres were exposed and if the consequences of Ulysses' arrest and then murder came back to bite Moon Lake directly, "though, the tough part of all this is how long it can be kept going. We can't run on these precautions indefinitely. Someone will be bound to rebel."
Katherine slowly nodded. While Moon Lake had long done its best to make sure that its population was safe, there was no way that they could keep weres from enjoying the full scope of their abilities indefinitely. In fact, from what Katherine remembered from talks with her parents while growing up that many of Moon Lake's present restrictions, no public transformation during the day and so on had been difficult to put in place when that was done. Restricting things further would be difficult and would only work as an emergency measure until the threat of discovery or suspicion went down.
"Agreed," Katherine gave a sigh, "though... that begs the question as to how long do you think we can expect anyone to be hunting for the truth regarding Lionel Ulysses..."
"Given what the FBI have assured us... I would expect that the real heat from all this will last a week," Samantha sighed, "though that could just be a guess. We can only determine that by how the media covers all this. It could last a week or go for a month. We will just have keep an eye on things."
Katherine sighed heavily. Samantha Twist's position as Town Chancellor had revolved around the issues around Moon Lake's secret, be it in welcoming new people moving to the town or in cases such as this, potentially readying the town for full exposure to humanity.
"I'd think if it lasts a month, we'd be facing complete exposure," Katherine spoke, "as it would mean that the media has found something..."
Samantha nodded before taking a sip from her coffee mug. The incident was still causing trouble and she expected things in Moon Lake to remain fairly sticky for the next few days at least. Agent Green had promised that he'd convinced the police in Seattle to see the tail as a costume piece, and on the surface it looked as though the Seattle police were buying that. However, it would take more than a day to be sure of that, and thus why she had lost a good portion of her Sunday and why a lot of her present work was also focused on getting things together to make sure that full precautions were taken for the safety of all Moon Lake's residents.
"If that happens," Samantha sighed, "we may need to turn to Plan In the Open."
Katherine's eyes slowly widened. She was a Normal who had been born and raised in Moon Lake. She had grown up with weres and learned the truth about them as she grew up. When she entered into Moon Lake's politics as an effort to continue to make the small town better she'd heard of Plan In the Open. It was devised to deal with Moon Lake or weres being exposed and in a very basic way by coming out into the open and selling weres in the best possible light.
"In the Open..." Katherine said slowly, "Outright revealing weres and Moon Lake's secret to the world?"
"If things look like we have no other option," Samantha said slowly, "and as a measure of last resort... it's what we're to launch if something has come where we have no other option. For if we can't control the reveal, things won't be good for us. And with the advances in the media, we do have the means to do so and make sure that the reveal benefits us."
"Are we to that point, yet?" Katherine asked.
"Not yet," Samantha answered, "that too will also depend on what the media reports on. We will have to wait and see on whether or not we are brought to that point... if we're lucky, it wont't come to that."
"And how will it work, exactly?" Katherine sighed, "the plan is old?"
"Old... but the best we can do," Samantha sighed, "given that it is a last resort tactic. We present complete proof on Moon Lake and show that we've had complete balance between weres and normals and where we are not out of control and are in balance where Normals like you and Weres like me can live and work together and not fear the other."
Katherine sat quietly for a few moments and only looked to the Town Chancellor.
"It actually isn't too different from what I do when welcoming a new family to Moon Lake," Samantha continued, "only on a much larger scale and without the obvious one of you must become a were bit."
"There is still plenty that could go wrong," Katherine pointed out.
"And why Plan In the Open has been a last resort... when it's obvious that we're... or at least weres in general are to be exposed anyway," Samantha sighed, "we may be able to alter it so as to protect Moon Lake's location and leave it only to weres... but it would still be a last resort action... and will hopefully paint weres in the best possible light and allow for the best possible reaction to our existence."
Both were then quiet and let frustrated sighs go from there.
