It didn't take nearly as long to get ready to go the Brown Farm as they thought. When Mrs. Wesley called Farmer Brown, he didn't sound particularly surprised that Mary Alice got transformed and told her to come on over. Getting Mary Alice dressed also easy as she was about the same size as Sarah. Before long, the three of them were in the car and heading towards the farm.
Mary Alice didn't sit still through the ride. As a normal dog, she loved car rides. But now she was able to see the world from an entirely new perspective. Sarah and her mom had to talk her out of sticking her head out the window as that would attract far too much attention, but she did constantly look around as they drove through the neighborhood. Another reason she couldn't sit still was that the clothes she wore were too uncomfortable for her. They weren't too big or small, but they rubbed at her fur the wrong, particularly the underwear she now had to wear. She understood that humans had a bigger sense of modesty than animals, but that didn't make her feel more comfortable.
When they got to the farm, Mary Alice bolted out of the car and started running around the lawn, pent up with energy from the trip. Mrs. Wesley got out of the car and yelled, "Mary Alice! M.A.! Malice!" Mary Alice stopped when she heard her use the name for when she's been bed. Though she thought that 'Malice' was cooler and let of a mouthful than 'Mary Alice'. "Don't run off, we need to have the scientists look at you," said Mrs. Wesley.
"That might be a while," said Farmer Brown, walking out, "They're over at the river settlement, getting things situated with the other animals." He looked Mary Alice up and down and said, "She doesn't look to be in bad shape to me anyways."
"So what do we do now?" asked Sarah as she got out of the car.
"You can take a look around if you like," said Farmer Brown, "Abigail should be somewhere in the field with Samson, you might want to go see her. Just don't wander too far."
"Sure thing," said M.A., her husky tail wagging. There were so many new smells that were enticing to her and she wanted to see more of this farm.
