One of Jade's chores while he was grounded was to bring in the post in the morning. There was a small package there with no name or address on it. Jade decided to open it and found some computer device stuff. He had no idea what it was.
The school bus arrived sooner than Jade had expected. He didn't want to turn up late and give his teacher an excuse for keeping him after school. He completely forgot he was still holding the package when he went on to the buss. “Oh, well. Guess I can try it out at school.”
As he went to find a seat, a foot shot out tripping him. Darren, the class bully laughed at him. “You like crawling, ha?” Jade was angry, but kept quiet. He didn't want to end up in trouble or detention.
Class was boring as usual. They were writing essays on their laptops. Jade decided to try out the program he'd gotten. As soon as it installed, Jade saw a menu full of names. All of which were of his classmates. And his teacher. Everyone in the room.
He clicked in on himself and saw it was full of detailed information. There was also a computer animated version of himself there. He chose an option at random to see if he could change anything. Fingernail length. He slid the bar and pressed slave.
Instantly, his fingernails grew long. Wow! Jade hastened to set them back to normal in the program. His fingers returned to their normal selves. The implications of this program began to fill Jade's mind.
