The next day, Katie woke up feeling a little different than she had in the past. She had aged eight years in the last 24 hours, and it was taking it's toll on her. She didn't wake up with the boundless energy she had as a 7 year old. She went downstairs to discover...
Her mother, now sister, Kellie was up and bounding around the kitchen, a little more energetic than Katie remembered most mornings. And why shouldn't she be; after all, she was 11 years younger than she had been yesterday. Well, most of yesterday at least.
"Hi Kellie," Katie said. "How are you feeling today?"
"Pretty great, considering," Kellie said. "I was upset because my case got reassigned to one of the older attorneys, but to compensate they gave me a vacation day! And since your school is having an in-service, we can spend the whole day together!"
Katie realized that her wish that no one recognizing her mother's age changes had had other effects. Her work experience was being diminished as well as her age. However, a quick look at the photos hanging on the walls led her to realize something else: She hadn't altered the past, because there was a 3-year-old picture of her 40-year-old mother still hanging on the wall where it had been before.
Katie was fascinated by this and wanted to be sure. She again used the ring to concentrate on her mother, silently wishing that she were a few years younger and that know one would recognize the changes.
"What the heck!" Katie heard Kellie exclaim. She turned around to find the now 29-year-old woman bent over -- her sleep pants had fallen down! she quickly pulled them up.
"Guess that diet is working Kat!" Kellie exclaimed. "So what do you want to do today? Mall? Movies? Beach?"
"Hmm," Katie said. "Let's go to the ..."
