Hook, Line, and Sinker

added by The Brilliant Dr. Garfield 7 years ago A BM

Suddenly, out of the bushes burst a dog. You yell out and instinctively throw your hands up to protect your face. You lower them, feeling very foolish, and observe a Rottweiler sitting on the trail in front of you, panting. You back away at first, as you are always wary around animals that don't know you, but the dog just cocks it's head and gets up, padding in your direction. "Uh... nice doggie... you say, still backing away.

The dog stops and begins to whine. For a reason you can't explain, you stop too. You feel guilt washing over you and walk over to the dog, who hasn't moved from the spot and doesn't appear threatening in the slightest. In fact, it bends it's head down as you reach your hand out, allowing you to pet it. You do so and it begins to pant. You draw your hand away and it turns around and looks at you. It obviously wants you to follow it.

You look back at the trail and decide why the hell not. You turn and the dog wags it's tail and begins padding along the trail. You follow it gingerly, about ten feet behind it. A it goes around bends or up small hills, it occasionally goes out of sight, but you always manage to catch sight of it again. You travel up hills, through thick trees, and even pass a lake every now and then.

Eventually, you reach a small clearing. You find, standing in front of you, a small cabin. It's roof sags in places, and the porch looks a little rickety, but it appears lived-in and quite well-taken-care of. The dog pads up the steps and waits for you at the door, sitting and turning it's head to look at you. Omitting about the cabin seems...off, but you step forward and climb up the steps anyway. The screen door of the cabin is closed, but the actually door is open. You pull this open and step inside, the dog at your heels.

The cabin is dark, lacking electricity, but it's clear what the one room is filled with: kennels. Dog kennels line the walls, full of dog of all breeds and sizes. Some of them are puppies, some of them look like they'd fall over if you even blew on them. A hundred friendly eyes look at you as you enter. Suddenly, most of them jump to their paws and begin barking at you. You are taken aback by this sudden outburst, but stay put.

The dog's barking gets more and more frantic and vicious, as if they're trying to warn you about something. They jump up, hitting their front paws on the chain links, on two legs, barking and snarling at you. You're puzzled. Who would leave all these poor dogs in the middle of the woods in a deserted cabin? Although you have to admit that the dogs look well-fed and taken care of. There's no grime, dust, or mess noticeable anywhere in the room. But you are puzzled by the lack of food or water bowls.

But before you can ponder this any further, you hear a thick, low growling come from directly behind you. Turning, you see the once-friendly Rottweiler is now standing, legs spread apart, mouth open in a snarl, growling heavily. White foam gathers at the corners of it's mouth and drips onto the floor.

"What..." is all you have time to say before the dog's 120 pounds of thick muscle hits you square in the chest, huge paws on your shoulders. You scream as you and the dog hit the floor and begin tumbling. All around you, the dogs whine and whimper. You manage to shove it off and flip onto your back, getting up on your hands and knees. But the dog simply lunges forward and knock you to the floor again. It pins you against the ground, paws on your shoulders. You scream and try to swat at the dog's face, but to no avail. Then, it plunges down with it's muzzle and bites you hard on the shoulder.

You scream in pain as you feel blood pooling on the floor below you. The dog, surprisingly, gets off of you and goes back to sitting down. A wave of warmth spreads over your body and you feel strange. It feels like there is a lump in your throat and you attempt to clear it. You open your mouth to cough, but, much to your horror, all that comes out is a loud bark. You put your hands up to your neck and feel your voice box dropping. You let out, involuntarily, a canine yelp of fear. Suddenly you begin to feel itchy. Fur starts forcing it's way out of your skin as you fall to the floor, writhing and squirming.
