Kelly Lincoln was a normal eighteen year old girl of the early sixties. Her husband had gone in to the army weeks before and she was living with her parents until she and her husband could pay fore their own place. She got the mail and found a strange envelope with a pink rocket and the word N.S.A, and her name in the address window. She open the envelope to find a letter witch shocks her, She has two weeks to settle her affairs then report to space camp. Their was a number to call if she had any questions and a unique I.D. number to comferm she got the letter. She runs to her mom and shows her the letter. "This has got to be a joke right, mom" she says. "best you call the number and find out, dear" my mom says. I rush to the phone and hope dad will not try and call. She dials the number. " Your I.D. number young lady" the grandmotherly voice on the other end. I nervelessly read off the number, she asks me to repeat it three times and reads it back to me, before it sounds she is handed a card. She reads off my name and academic record, were I work and even my husband`s name. She says yes I am to report to space camp in two weeks and to call this number free from any diner if I get lost.
Space camp, one month later Their has to be like nine hundred young women flipping running, or swimming here. They say only a third of use will make the cut. I had got to see my husband two weeks ago when we both reported than split in to men and women`s camps. After we were prosecuted, we got a weekend together. I had been trowing up fore a couple of days, my roommate a twenty year old woman who`s mom is taking care of her two year old girl says I might be pregnant. I hope not they would probably give me a pay check and send me home. Their are women of all races here. They explained that we will be a true melting pot. They do not expect to send us in to space more likely our kids or grand kids. This is about making a durable community of the best of the best that will be strong enough to fill generation ships that will take the best of the U.S.A. to space. I go to the nurses office. "What is the problem" a nurse a few years older than me asks. " I think I might be pregnant" I say shyly. "Married or engaged?" She asks. "Married I last saw my husband after report two weeks ago" I say. "Pee in this cup" she say. Handing me a clear cup. "if I am pregnant what will happen?" I ask. "I will tell you and then you will tell your husband" She says. "And then I will be sent home" I say. "No in fact it would be points in your favor to stay" she says. I think about that as I pee in a cup. I hand the cup back, I go back to the weighting room and read. Half an hour latter, she calls me back in. She hugs me and says "you are pregnant" she says. She picks up the office phone as I process what she said. I am going to be a mom and my kid or their kid will go in to space never to return. She whispers "your husband is on the phone" "honey, I am pregnant" I say. "Wow I am tolled that is good to stay" he says. Then it realy hits me, I might live to see my kid or grand kid fly away forever. soon we were thru that first round of training and got an other weekend with our husband or intended. Soon we were helping plain weddings. Lets just say more than one bride had a round belly. I got to meet my roommate`s little girl and her husband. It turned out one of the things the men had been doing had been building homes fore us. I had no Idea that in a decade we our selfs will leave earth and pray their would be some thing fore our descendants to come home too.
